Covid symptoms, household cases, but every test is negative!

So DC had a positive test 11 days ago (just finished his isolation) and DP tested positive 7 days ago. Not particularly isolated - just no physical contact and tried to sleep facing away from DP in bed.

I have been suffering intermittent aching, sore throat and a slight cough for about a week (not really felt particularly tired or ill) and today it has turned into a snotty nose.

Have done 2 PCR tests and daily LFT - all negative, even though I was convinced it had to be covid due to the circumstances Confused

Anyone else had this? I have to assume it is a common cold but it has felt odd to be going out but technically I could! I have limited it to essential and minimal shopping trips but feels bizarre Confused

My friend did. Two of her kids had Covid. She had a sore throat, cough and changes to her sense of taste and tested negative on 3 PCRs and daily lateral flows.

Yes just gone through it with DS 12 having it. Had symptoms, ive done 2 pcrs both negative and daily LFTS all negative

I think if there are cases in your household and you have symptoms I would assume the likelihood is you have it/had it and the tests are wrong.

I had this when my daughter had COVID. I had an awful cough, proper continuous cough keeping me up at night etc. My PCR tests were negative. Didn’t have access to LFT at the time. I later did an antibody test to see if I might have had it and that came back negative too. It was very weird.

Every single test has been wrong? That does feel a bit of a stretch considering I have done at least 10 lateral flows and 2 PCR's Confused

If you have enough antibodies in your system to fight this off you may not get enough virus to be detectable. However, you'll still feel like you are fighting something, because you are.

My mum had direct close contact with someone who tested positive for covid 12 hours later. She was examining their nose! I should add she's a retired practice sister so has experience.

She felt like she was fighting something a few days later. Felt rotten and slept a lot. Negative lateral flow each day and a negative pcr too.

There was an article on the BBC earlier this year about some research looking at how some common cold viruses essentially stopped you getting covid, so it is possible that you have a bog standard cold, and it has given you some protection from getting covid from your family.

That is really interesting - that is exactly how I have been feeling, just generally poorly all week (some days worse than others) although I have come out in a full blown cold now!

What is frustrating is that as DP is still isolating, I am having to do all the shopping/errands/DC taxi etc whilst feeling ill and he is perfectly fit and well now and stuck in the house for another 3 days Sad

OP I was in a very similar position to yours, up until a few days ago: DD positive after an outbreak in her class. DH positive around five days later. I felt mildly ill for ages but LFs and PCR remained unremarkable.

Then, over two weeks after DD's positive and ten days after DH's positive I finally tested positive myself. And the irony is I feel better now than I have for weeks.

I really don't want this - I have tickets for something I am desperate to see in a couple of weeks so I can't be testing positive!

Already had half term plans ruined Sad
