I had AZ x 2 earlier this year. Just tested positive yesterday and its absolutely floored me. I'm 40s and otherwise fit and healthy.

Temp was 40, aches and pains like flu but no loss of smell or taste. Lots of sneezing. Chest a bit tight but bearable. DP was at the point of an ambulance during the night due to temp concern.

Its eased a little today. Anyone else got a timeline to share? Am I over the worst or is it still to come?

Anyone else shocked by how bad they feel despite the vaccinations?

Yes. Was vaccinated early as I work in care and caught covid mid-August.

Totally floored me. Still getting over it tbh.

It’s okay to feel dreadful. And don’t feel like you need to be ‘over it’ once the ten days is up.

Bookridden · 27/10/2021 19:01

Yes, my story sounds very similar. Caught Covid in the first few days of October, and now on the mend, but it was absolutely horrific for about 5 days. Fever, nausea, breathlessness, SATs in low 90s, numerous calls to 111 & GP. Husband in a similar state. We were unable to function for about 5 days, then began to improve. Convalescence took about 2 weeks to get back to near normal. GP prescribed Pulmicort inhaler, which is supposed to shorten the duration of Covid and help with moderate cases. We found the whole experience scary and distressing, but have gone on to make a nearly full recovery and the appreciation you feel for normal life afterwards is through the roof. Hang in there, as it sounds as if you're nearly through the worst.

PlugUgly1980 · 27/10/2021 19:06

Day 4 here. Same age and double vaccinated. Itchy runny nose day 1 and 2, day 3 yesterday temperature of 39.7, awful headache, chills, general fluey feeling, but paracetamol really helped. Today woke up after nearly 10 hours sleep still feeling tired, but no temperature and have felt better as the day has gone on. Not counting my chickens though as I've heard a lot of people say it comes in peaks and troughs but certainly feel better today than yesterday.

Kittyswhiskers · 27/10/2021 19:11

My husband had awful awful high temperatures for 8 days that wouldn’t come down with paracetamol but all of a sudden they just stopped. He wasn’t jabbed at this point either!

Willyoujustbequiet · 27/10/2021 19:24

Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it. We had been so careful for so long so I went into a bit of a panic when I saw the postive. You automatically imagine the worst.

Yes Plug, my nose is similar. Running like a tap. I was hoping ( wrongly probably) that it might mean it doesn't go on my chest. Fingers crossed!

Take paracetamol to bring down your temp. I had it at the beginning of September. Temp fluctuated for 4/5days then returned to normal. Mainly sinus pain/headache aching muscles and feeling rough. Had dizziness for a couple of weeks. Lost sense of taste and smell after fever went but only for a week or so.
I had it back in Feb 2020, flu was much milder and temp was 37-38 so just a bit achy, the main issue was the dry cough and breathing difficulties, I had to sleep in a chair for 5days. With second dose last month I had a slight cough which was productive but no more than an average cold.
With first infection I lost my sense of smell for 3-4 months.
Delta is a different beast to original if you have been vaccinated or maybe have natural immunity. DH had it both times, as well, he has mild COPD but didn’t need hospitalisation. Of course like most colds and flu his was far worse than mine Man-Covid!

Angrymum22 · 27/10/2021 19:30

Oh and we are both late 50ds and have survived it twice. There is so much hype about Covid that people panic and present at A&E to be discharged in less than 24 hrs.

allupsidedown · 27/10/2021 19:30

I tested positive at start of September and I'm still recovering. I'm double jabbed too. It has been horrific. Keep an eye on your oxygen levels and your heart rate, sleep and rest as much as you can. I collected symptoms over a few days. It was absolutely horrendous.
Be kind to yourself.

Willyoujustbequiet · 27/10/2021 20:30

Thank you

Actually that's a good point about the different variants. Also possibly the difference between the vaccinations - DH is currently showing no sign and he had Pfizer instead. I had such a dreadful reaction to AZ I had hoped I had a lot of antibodies lol.

Hoping this will boost my immunity for a while at least.

wheresmymojo · 27/10/2021 20:37

You actually shouldn't take paracetamol to bring down your temperature.

The temp isn't caused by COVID per se - it's your own immune system that purposefully raises your body temperature as one way of killing off cells of the virus.

So paracetamol will make you feel a bit better but actually stops your immune system putting up the best fight it can.

The reason you get chills and shivers for example is that your immune system makes you feel cold (even though you aren't) to kick your body into raising its temperature.

(Different advice for kids though as they can have febrile convulsions)

Lougle · 27/10/2021 20:39

I'm on day 11 and feel fairly ok. Walking exhausted me though.

Porcupineintherough · 27/10/2021 20:47

@wheresmymojo my doctor told me that high body temperatures were very little use in fighting viral infections (more useful w bacterial ones) that you may as well go ahead and bring it down.

LactoseTheIntolerant · 27/10/2021 20:55

Oof I tested positive today (fully vaxed) and early 40s healthy and feel terrible too. High temp achy and spaced out. I've spent the day on the sofa binge watching married at first sight - Australia and, feeling sorry for myself. I hope everyone feels better soon.

BMWqueen · 27/10/2021 21:22

not vaccinated here… just had covid last week for the 1 st time and was ok.. a couple of days with aches etc but fine now :) x

Fr0thandBubble · 27/10/2021 22:45

I’m double jabbed with AZ and in my early 40s. Generally fit and healthy. Started feeling ill about 12 days ago, but felt much better on day 4. Then stupidly overdid it with work with three very late nights on the trot and on day 7 I suddenly went very downhill.

The last 5 days have been absolute hell. Temperature of nearly 40 every day, the worst headache I’ve ever had, body aches, chills, night sweats, nasal congestion - I can’t remember ever being so ill before.

Some advice my doctor gave me today - make sure you are eating little and often, and don’t just drink water - drink electrolytes (like Diarolyte) as you need to replace the salts you are losing. He also said to aim for 4l of fluids a day, as you get extremely dehydrated from days and days of a high temperature. Oh, and alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen to manage temperature.

Haven’t left my bed at all - thank God DH is here to look after me and the children. I have no idea how single parents deal with this.

Bubbublish · 28/10/2021 04:48

I ended up in hospital for 10 nights with covid pneumonia. I was on CPAP but avoided ICU. The days before I was blue lighted to hospital at home, I was getting worse by the day. Temperature reached 39.3, I wasn't eating or drinking and being sick alot. Oxygen on admission was 86%. Gp told me not to take ibroprufen because it could add to me feeling sick. I'm recovering slowly, still get very breathless if I do too much. Wishing everyone well

Willyoujustbequiet · 28/10/2021 08:46

Another rough night. My oxygen sats appear fine but awful leg cramps and never had nasal congestion like it. Wiped out. Unfortunately the pumpkin carving must wait lol

Wheresmymojo that's an interesting point about paracetamol - not ever been a one for tablets but have been taking them as I've never had a temp this high. Will see how I feel reducing them.

I honestly dread to think how bad it would have been unvaccinated.

I hope everyone on the same journey feels better soon.

littlepeas · 28/10/2021 09:06

We've also got it at the moment and the differences in how we've all felt is bonkers - it's such a weird illness.

My dh (mid 40's, 2x AZ) has been quite rough - not staying in bed rough, but definitely not right for a week now - classic symptoms. I had Pfizer and it's been like a light cold for me. We're both in good health - I am 5 years younger.

My mum caught it off ds too and she's been asymptomatic! She had AZ and a Pfizer booster, but the booster was only 2 days before she was exposed.

No way of knowing how much difference the vaccines have made I guess, although I assume it has made some difference to the severity. Maybe I wouldn't have been as ill as dh if we'd had it unvaccinated too, or maybe Pfizer is better, or maybe my body just responded better to the jab, or maybe it's genetic/down to blood type or something - who knows?

littlepeas · 28/10/2021 09:06

Hope everyone feels well soon.

Ah, that's interesting!

Will research a bit more

icedancerlenny · 28/10/2021 09:15

I had Pfizer but second dose was end April so I am due a booster but tested positive beginning of October. I spent 9 days in bed - managing a shower but then not to even dry my hair after. On day 12 I was feeling ok enough to get back out. Still have a splitting headache on and off and I do get tired. I have Ms though, so it could have exacerbated that.

My taste & smell didn’t go until maybe day 5. Started with a splitting headache so I went for a walk & ended up walking 15 miles. Next day I felt dreadful & spent the day in bed only getting out to take my daughter to her club - but I didn’t feel well enough to sit with her and ended up sleeping in the car. I thought I was just exhausted from my walk. That night I had terrible sweats and that’s when I thought oh no maybe this isn’t just exhaustion from the walk. The next morning I had the full on cough, sneezing, temperature etc etc & tested positive on lateral flow & PCR. Luckily the 2 days prior I hadn’t seen anyone but it really was just a headache & tiredness for the first two days for me.

LactoseTheIntolerant · 29/10/2021 09:35

How is everyone doing? I'm on day 3 definite improvement no temperature but feel like I have a heavy cold. Tierd, headaches just generally under the weather. Smell and taste still there. Dh is a few days ahead of me and feels a lot better so I'm hopeful 🤞

stripeymonster · 29/10/2021 10:15

Hi - not doing well at all. On day 7 and the breathlessness started last night and made it nearly impossible to sleep. Things had been improving until yesterday now it feels worse than ever.

Kangaruby · 29/10/2021 10:22

Day 3 here, triple jabbed with pzifer ( over month since booster), headache main issue, poor sleep and runny nose, feeling bit better today ( saying that all I've done is drink a lemsip and take ibuprofen - headache only eases for about 2 hours post painkillers) hopefully no relapses

LactoseTheIntolerant · 29/10/2021 11:01
