Still contagious with cough?

My child is on the last day of their isolation but cough is still there. Are they still contagious with a cough now? It only came on in the latter part of their isolation. Feeling a bit nervous about mixing again.

No they only advise isolating further if you have a fever. Cough is fine.

BlibBlabBlob · 27/10/2021 13:30

No, it's fine. If they're old enough and will tolerate it easily, get them to do an LFT. It will come up negative if they have passed the infectious stage. I've still got three more days of isolation to go and my daily LFT has already turned negative. (Still got plenty of symptoms though - bit of a cough, loss of taste and smell, fatigue.)

As @CrackerGal says the self-isolation only needs to continue past 10 full days if there is still fever present.

And if you've still got a fever, you probably don't want to get out of bed anyway!

The cough can go on for weeks. Not contagious.

If the LFT has turned negative does that mean no longer infectious? As my son is isolating in his bedroom - could he come back out into the house with us once his lft goes negative or we can still catch it?
Obviously not going outside the house but at least not lonely in his room. But we don’t want to catch it. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Thank you!!!

I thought a LFT would show a positive for up to 90 days. At work, when we have had Covid, we don’t have to do the twice-weekly LFTs for 90 days.

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/10/2021 14:01

No LFT test was negative on day eight

No PCR required for 90 days as it’s a different test.

BlibBlabBlob · 27/10/2021 15:05

It's the PCR test that may still show as positive for up to 90 days. LFT will be negative once you're no longer infectious.

You can stop doing the LFTs for 90 days though because you're not going to catch Covid-19 again that quickly!

The tests can show up positive for up to 90 days but for most people they start reading negative fairly soon a few days post infection in my experience.

You can go out with a cough but not with a temp. Have test and trace not told you this 17 times?
