Travel PLF for the not tech savvy folk

Wellbythebloodyhell · 26/10/2021 20:16

My parents are due to go to Spain next month, they are stressed out about the passenger locator forms they need to fill pre departure back to the UK.
They are not very tech savvy at all, both have mobile phones but never use them for Internet purposes just to text or call.
Does anyone know any easy ways for them to fill these forms out? They can't be the only people travelling that are not familiar with using Internet on their mobile phones? I'm not sure they even have Internet access abroad they have very basic phone plans or if they know how to turn it on and off

I believe there are no paper options so they would need to stay in a hotel that would help them fill in these not short forms. Have they got separate email addresses?

Wellbythebloodyhell · 26/10/2021 20:24

They are staying in private accommodation not a hotel. They were hoping that there would be places like Internet cafes, money exchange or sightseeing shops would be offering the facility to fill them in and print them out for them, for a fee of course which they would be happy to pay for.

The best scenario would be to go through the form with your parents before they go so they know what they need to do, and have someone help them at the hotel at the other end.

An alternative is that you or someone else does it for them, maybe screensharing via zoom or MS teams, and then you can send them/the hotel the pdf for printing/presenting on their phone.

What Palava said.
Do a dummy run before they go, and if you have their info to hand you can do it for them and send it over for printing while they're out there.
You need to upload a vaccination certificate, provide details of passports, return flight, and the booking reference for the day 2 test.

The form cannot be completed until 48 hours before arrival in the UK.

Remmy123 · 26/10/2021 21:23

I do this for my boss - I do it all for him, can you do the same then print it all for them to take?

Palavah · 26/10/2021 21:28

You can't complete it for them before they go but you can do it while they're away within the 48 hours before they return if you have all the details and have a way of getting the form to them.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 26/10/2021 21:35

Can you do the forms for them (whilst they're away as it has to be completed within 24 hours of their return flight) and then email the form (you get it as a pdf once it's completed) to them for printing?

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 26/10/2021 21:37

They don't have to print it, but they may find that easier than fiddling with their mobile phones at the check-in desk.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 26/10/2021 21:39

They have copies of their vaccine passports that have been sent by 119. If I have a copy of this on my phone and the day 2 test info, can I fill in the forms for them and then get them to access their email in Spain in a Internet cafe to print off?
Does it need to go to a different email address or can I do it twice but to the same email address?
It's all so complicated Halloween Confused

Trust me they will need to print it. They can barely send a WhatsApp between them

Yes, if you complete the form you can generate a pdf which you can send to them

Wellbythebloodyhell · 26/10/2021 21:42

Separate question .....do the vaccine passports posted out by 119 have an expiry date? There's no QR code on them

OP posts:
Ietthemeatcake · 26/10/2021 21:50

I'm pretty sure you need to upload a vaccine passport with a single QR code visible, so a digital version. Ideally could you help them set up their NHS accounts online and get a digital version downloaded.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 26/10/2021 21:52

Yes you can definitely do it for them if you have all the info. I did my husband's for him as he is terrible at using his phone for stuff like this (I was with him abroad, but there wouldn't have been an issue with me doing it if we hadn't been together). I think you can just get both PDF forms sent to your email address which you can then forward onto them (but I'm not 100% sure).

No I don't think they do. My parents sound very similar to yours and they had these which they used for entry to Croatia (after I spend some time with them sorting out their pre departure and day 2 tests and pre arrival forms). Thankfully they travelled with Saga who helped them do the locator forms for their return, but I had sorted them out with PDFs of their proof of vaccine.

At the moment you also need to fill in a form before you go to Spain too, which you need to upload proof of vaccination to, and you need to present this when you arrive there, but printed should be fine.

GorgeousGoldies · 26/10/2021 22:04

We’ve just done ours this morning (they are a bit of a nightmare for the untech-savvy…like me!)

There is an option not to upload your qr code and show the paper copy at the airport instead. We couldn’t upload ours due to technical issues, so have got it all printed out and got everything crossed.

EileenGC · 26/10/2021 22:11

You can book the tests, and fill in both forms for them from the UK - and send them to your own email address. Don't upload vaccine QR codes, it's not compulsory. You will need dates of birth, passport numbers and expiry dates, address... Take a photo of their passport before they go, basically.

If they find a printing shop wherever they are staying, you can then email the forms and they'll print them off for them. I would look for what we call a 'copistería' or 'papelería' in Spain.

What's the plan for the Spanish PLF? I guess they can do those with you before they leave but off the top of my head, I can't remember if they can be printed off or not.

You will need a QR code to scan from the vaccine passport.
Palavah · 26/10/2021 22:14

Oh - sorry EileenGC has advised it's not compulsory. If so great.

Ontopofthesunset · 26/10/2021 23:05

I couldn't manage to scan my vaccination QR code for my PLF; you can tick that you haven't uploaded it and then you just have to show the vaccination certificate at the airport. I had a paper copy and a copy on my phone anyway.
