Isolating from your family at home!

I am the only one with covid at the moment. It is so hard to be separate from the kids! Part of me thinks there’s no point as before I knew I was positive I was contagious anyway. How did you manage it? I’m on day 3 and it’s so tough, especially as it’s half term. 😞

Unless your DC are either 10+ and very self-reliant, or you have a DP at home all the time to look after them, I don't think you can even attempt it.

Keep windows open as much as possible, clean places that get touched and the bathroom often, try to avoid face-to-face contact if you can and avoid sharing food/drink/towels. Maybe wear a mask and/or ask them to if you're in the same room. That's all you can do really.

But I wouldn't worry too much. Children, especially primary aged, are all going to get exposed to it at some point soon and they're unlikely to be particularly unwell with it. They may not even catch it from you.

My DC are older (9 and 12) but we've all just managed to avoid catching it from DS12. He stayed in his room a lot (especially when feeling ill) but we didn't isolate him as such.

Thanks @BlackInk

Just feeling a bit sorry for myself tonight. Missing out on all the fun half term stuff we’d planned. I know things could be worse!

Both myself and the DH were positive at the end of last year, the DC are only young and so isolation wasn't even thought of, my DH was more unwell than I so he took himself off to bed most of the time, however we kept windows open when it was bearable and not too cold, we constantly washed our hands and encouraged the kids to do so, we anti bac'd everything and just became extra on keeping on top of the cleaning....wasn't easy as we felt unwell, but just hand washing, worktops/door handles etc

In relation to entertaining the DCs, it was a lot of movie nights....pulling couch in front of tv, lights off, blankets etc, magazines dropped off by my parents, board games, lots of lazy days and snack food.

Hope you feel better soon!

I forgot to add, my DCs never got so much as a sniffle either, and as testing was stricter last year, we have no idea as to whether they did contract it, so hopefully your DC will be the same!

I did not isolate from DS. He's 8 and I'm a single parent so wasn't an option really, but even if it was I wouldn't do it. Plus I decided I'd rather us both have it at the same time and get it out the way rather than have to do 2 separate isolation periods as I'd have to take time off work both times!

Alicesays · 26/10/2021 20:10

I wouldn't isolate from mine, she's only young and the harms of covid (for a small child) are smaller than the distress she'd suffer from us being apart.

Why are you isolating from your children? if they are fit and young and healthy what are you worried about? however isolating from them is definately not going to be healthy - they may even start growing up fearing viruses, touching things, obsess over hand hygiene - you don't want any of that x

DH tested positive and we didn't even consider isolating from him. Neither me nor the kids got it.
