Just had my 2nd AZ dose come soothe my anxiety

Have put off my second dose for too long and have finally given my head a wobble and gone and had it done just now.

The woman was very nice and reassuring and kind but I’m now sat in my car at McDonald’s with a coffee feeling a bit tearful.

So please come and reassure me. I’ll take anything from gentle hair stroking to AIBU style arse kicking. I have no idea when I turned into such an anxious person Sad

@Whataboutme21

Well done op! I’m just 28 days past my first dose of AZ today, I had put it off due to my anxiety and I’m not going to lie the last 4 weeks have been torture and I’m now worried about the 2nd dose, so I know rubbish anxiety is! Think you’ve done the right thing especially with cases rising and coming into winter
My first dose was before all the clotting news (yup I’ve held off that long!) so I wasn’t particularly anxious after the 1st dose as was blissfully unaware. I’m anticipating a miserable four weeks now though.

Yeah it probably will be tough, try to keep busy and distract yourself. I tried to avoid reading or watching anything to do with the vaccine or covid. Once the 4 weeks are passed you’ll be glad you did it Flowers

Well done! I had Az back in Feb and again in May. I felt good after my first but when the second came around I was so anxious as all the stuff on the media about blood clots and I'm under 30. I made myself ill worrying, I kept putting it off and even thought about not getting it but I was brave and I was absolutely fine though. A little tired but nothing extreme. I am so glad I had it! I do worry that it's been so long since I've had the second dose and going into winter but what can I do. I don't think I'm eligible for booster even though I had first dose early! Now is a good time to get fully jabbed op - just before the winter!

Try and relax. Take a nice hit bathe, watch a film or do something you enjoy. The worry will make you feel crap in itself!

You'll be fine and fully protected 💕

TheVampiresWife · 24/10/2021 17:08

Well done OP! You've done a brilliant thing which not only protects you but others, too.

You will be absolutely fine and fully protected going into winter. Possibly better protected than those who had their second jab months ago!

Now go home and reward yourself with something lovely, you deserve it CakeWineFlowers

AlexaShutUp · 24/10/2021 17:19

It might be an anxious four weeks, OP, but at least it's finite. If you hadn't had the second jab, the anxiety about that would have gone on indefinitely. Try to distract yourself as much as you can for the next few weeks and then you can forget about it. Smile

You might even surprise yourself and find that you don't worry about it as much as you expect to. My mum suffers with health anxiety and very nearly didn't get the second jab but we managed to persuade her. I expected a paranoid few weeks afterwards but she didn't actually end up worrying about it that much after all. In a way, once the decision had been made, I think it helped to ease the anxiety a bit

Great! I had not a great reaction to my first AZ jab but no side effects at all to the second. I have added risk factors so wondering when I'll get my booster.
My sister, a doctor, said any jab is the best jab as you are getting it - so feel good you have done your bit.
I'm still taking precautions- mask in public transport and shops, washing my hands. But I feel positive and you should too! Now get your flu jab if you're entitled 😁

I felt awful after my first AZ day too. Thought my bones would snap from the aching and woke up literally with my pj’s drenched in sweat one night.

I’m not too worried about feeling a bit poorly I think it’s just the clotting risk that I’ve blown up in my head

FWIW I had Pfizer, first dose was fine, 2nd rough and my booster I was so ill I thought I might die and stayed awake from 2am - 6am crying lol

Here I am 3 weeks on still alive

Bluebellfae · 24/10/2021 18:33

Sending hugs well done xxx

Arbitan · 24/10/2021 18:50

Sensible, right decision for yourself and others.

Had two AZ jabs myself and no side effects at all, apart from a slightly sore arm.

Recently tested positive for covid but had no symptoms, so I assume the vaccine is doing its job!

YukoandHiro · 24/10/2021 18:54

Well done OP, I was also anxious for my second dose, but the nurse told me that if you didn't have a problem with the first dose it's virtually I impossible for you to face complications with the second

SnarkyBag · 24/10/2021 19:27

Thanks everyone. It’s silly but your posts are really helpful so thank you Flowers

A huge well done. As someone who delayed their second AZ dose and agonised for months about what to do, I know what the anxiety is like. With the Delta variant, personally I think you’ve absolutely done the right thing. I’m not sure how much depth you went into with your research but the risk with the second is significantly lower than the risk with the first and now I have the clarity of hindsight I’m able to see just how small the risk is. I’ve never regretted my decision to get my second and in just a few weeks you’ll have amazing protection. I coped by trying to keep myself busy and taking one day at a time knowing that I’d taken the time to weigh up the risks and had made an informed decision. You’ve absolutely got this and well done.

SnarkyBag · 24/10/2021 22:34

Thanks @Rainbowsandstorms I’m glad I’ve done it but am hoping tomorrow I’ll be too busy to keep worrying about it! I suspect I won’t sleep great tonight as I’m terrible for insomnia anyway!

I’m thinking I may need to speak with someone about this anxiety business. Like I said upthread I’m usually fairly level headed but I’ve done a great job of getting myself in a pickle over this and it’s caused me endless stress to the point I think I’ve made myself unwell sometimes.

Might be worth speaking to your GP, @SnarkyBag. Flowers
