I’ve received a text from gp to book my booster but don’t think I’m eligible

I had my first vaccinations early as I have an autistic child so I’m classed as unpaid carer. Received a text from gp with link to book booster but looking at criteria I don’t think I eligible and wasn’t expecting an invitation as it only says carers over 16 who care for someone at increased risk from COVID. There is no other criteria I would qualify on as I’m under 50 and have no conditions myself. The text is worded that I qualify as eligible as click to book now rather than a general txt to all saying check if you are eligible. Do I just ignore and assume it’s wrong, I could check with gp I suppose but don’t want to waste their time unnecessarily

Go to the NHS GP Alliance website and there is a chart you can check to find out your COVID booster date. Look up the date of your last vaccination and you will see the earliest date you can have your COVID booster. This should be 6 months since your last vaccination.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/10/2021 06:59

That's not what the OP is asking.

OP I think you would fall in to the category of caring for someone with an increased risk.

Morph2lcfc · 24/10/2021 07:05

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

That's not what the OP is asking.

OP I think you would fall in to the category of caring for someone with an increased risk.

The specific wording is “ people aged 16 and over who are a main carer for someone at high risk from COVID-19” then there’s a link to click who is high risk and it’s very specific but no autism. My child is very fit and healthy so I don’t even think he is increased risk, the main logic for having the first vaccine early was in case carers got ill and couldn’t care for child rather than the child being at risk. I think I will ask on some parent support fb pages I’m on see if anyone else has received anything

You have obviously been put in group 6 as a carer so just book your booster.

FatLadySang · 24/10/2021 07:15

Presumably the booster is the same criteria then? If you fell sick, who looks after your DC? Get the booster.

clockover · 24/10/2021 07:22

I would just go and get it tbh.

AppleKatie · 24/10/2021 07:24

I would also go and get it!

GoodnightGrandma · 24/10/2021 07:24

You are a carer so are eligible.
If you got sick who would look after your child ? That’s why you’re getting the booster.

kimlo · 24/10/2021 07:58

you were group 6 is a carer and it has been 6 months since your last vaccination. People in groups 1-6 are eligible.

NautaOcts · 24/10/2021 08:00

You’re overthinking it
Just book it. It sounds like it’s been 6 months since your last one. You got the last one early so shouldn’t get this one early.

As it happens I booked mine through the national website as am a frontline health and social care worker but at no point did anyone ask me for proof of that,

Having said that though they might have had something on the system and could see that my 2nd one was back in March.

DoctorSnortles · 24/10/2021 08:00

Just go and have it done.

GoodnightGrandma · 24/10/2021 08:02

They can see on the system when you had your last one. If it was 6 months ago you are due.

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/10/2021 08:02

I dont think group 6 are eligible righr this minute. I am both a carer (to a child with autism) and in group 6 due to my ow conditions. Group 6 is vulnerable rather than extremely vulnerable .

The lists look like those that extremeley vulnerable and those who care for those who are immunosuppressed.

However I believe the intention is to move to "group 6" and as you are due I would personally just take it .

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/10/2021 08:03

But also do check it's been 6 months. It wont be yet for a lot of group 6/carers yet I dont think.

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 24/10/2021 08:03

Same happened to me but for a slightly different reason.

I was group 6 due to kidney issues, but they're not as bad as the stage 5 kidney disease I saw mentioned in the list of who is eligible for the booster. I got the same text and email, which I showed at the vaccination clinic I was going to for my flu jab, and they gave me my booster. I was clear that I hadn't been shielding or anything and they weren't bothered, just merrily jabbed away.

megletthesecond · 24/10/2021 08:04

Just get the jab.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 24/10/2021 08:04

If you've been sent an invite then go and get it. The booster rollout is a joke as is the teenage rollout and we can't rely on the government to get vaccines into people in a timely way any more.

whatswithtodaytoday · 24/10/2021 08:05

Just book it. Even if you and your child are not vulnerable, your immunity may still be waning (less than those who are eligible for to age/illness, but still a reduction). It should get you through what's going to be a tough winter.

sartorius · 24/10/2021 08:06

I would just book it OP.

You are classed as a Carer.
If it is over 6 months since your 2nd dose then you could have reduced immunity now so who would care for your DC with additional needs if you became ill?
It's same situation as last time so get your booster

SinoohXaenaHide · 24/10/2021 08:12

If your last vaccination was 6 months ago then yes you are eligible and yes you should book your booster. The specific wording isn't important. Getting everyone vaccinated every 6 months is a gargantuan feat of logistics and the one thing each individual can do is just go along with the flow as soon as you are invited as that is what makes for the least possible administrative burden. People wanting to query whether they are really entitled to a jab they have bern offered just creates more work. Please just go with it.

Morph2lcfc · 24/10/2021 08:14

thanks for comments I just don’t want to waste my time booking and attending if I’m then turned down when I get there but from other comments sounds like I won’t be if I show the text

OP posts:
clarepetal · 24/10/2021 08:32

Just take it OP. I wouldn't resent you for it x

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/10/2021 09:03

No the people who are there aren't checking eligibility. They are just jabbing eveyone who us booked . The eligibikity is happening at the booking end..

Just go :)

Fallagain · 24/10/2021 09:40

The more people who are vaccinated the better. Im wondering if they are grouping autism within learning disability. People with learning disabilities generally have poorer health outcomes.

Kiduknot · 24/10/2021 09:42

If it’s been 6 months then you need the booster regardless.
