Offered a booster by mistake?

AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 22:22

My GP has sent a message and a reminder telling me to book my booster but I am mid 30s with no health conditions, not a carer or NHS staff (I am a teacher) and only had my second dose of Pfizer towards the end of May. As far as I can see I am not eligible so am unsure why I am being offered this. The NHS system will let me book it though for next week so I’m not sure what is going on. Has this happened to anyone else?

Check with 119

AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 22:30

I had never heard of 119 and had to google it. Do they deal with vaccinations as well as test and trace?

Are you a SEN teacher
I had mine last week

Coatandhat · 22/10/2021 22:42

Me too OP. I had 2 texts and a letter saying I should have one as I had a significantly weakened immune system! I went to the GPs to ask if they could shed any light on it but they were equally puzzled. Receptionist said that you can't have one until 182 days after the second jab anyway.

AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 22:44

No, not a SEN teacher. I’m in a mainstream school. I was earlier for the first round but I live in a student area of a city so thought maybe the GP had fewer older patients on file so just got me quicker as they were working through the groups. Now I’m beginning to wonder if there is something on my medical file I’m unaware of.

In some areas, booster invitations are coming after 5 months, sounds like that's what's happened here..

AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 22:49

I don’t how to tag a post properly but are you having the booster @CoatandHat? My GP has a message saying don’t ask them about vaccines.

But you are entitled to a flu vaccine , at least you are in Scotland if you are a teacher .

Wellbythebloodyhell · 22/10/2021 22:52

You may get turned away at the vaccination site for being too early, handful of ineligible people have been able to book through being invited too early by 119 and then been turned away from the appointment.
If you want the booster by all means go to the appointment and take your chances you may get lucky you may not.

AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 22:54

I’m in England and haven’t been offered the Flu vaccine. If they mistakenly believed I was vulnerable would that have been offered too?

OP posts:
AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 22:56

If coatandhat is right with the 182 days then the slots they are offering are too soon anyway.

Are teachers in England ( or where ever you are ) not getting a Flu vaccine ?

AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 23:00

My BMI (last time I checked) was 20 and even with some weight gain would be no more than 21. I can’t think of anything that would make me CEV and have never been notified to shield or anything.

No flu jabs for teachers in England. I think that’s just Scotland.

plinkplinkfizzer · 22/10/2021 23:04

I didn't know , that is a shame ,I think Nursery staff are getting it too .

Coatandhat · 22/10/2021 23:07

@AltCarbon Like @Wellbythebloodyhell says, I was told that I would be turned away for being too soon if I did make an appointment. She said to check back next month. I am a teacher in England and usually we would be offered a flu jab in school but we haven't this year. So I booked one in my local branch of Boots - they had plenty of them available, unlike the independent pharmacies nearby who'd run out.

Anyone can pay for a flu jab £10-£15, yes I agree it's galling and everyone should be eligible on the NHS but working in retail previously I've regularly paid for it, its not an extortionate amount to pay
AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 23:14

I still have no idea why I’m even on the list and don’t want to be turned away if I’m not eligible on any level.

OP posts:
nordica · 22/10/2021 23:15

Your first jab must have been really early. I'm late 30s and had mine as soon as the booking opened for my age group - first in May and second in July. So on that basis you were invited early so might be something on your medical record is (mistakenly) flagging you as CV.

AltCarbon · 22/10/2021 23:21

Think I might need to phone the GP (ignoring their message of don’t ask us about vaccines) and try to figure out what is happening. My first vaccine was February.

OP posts:
bubbleteatea · 22/10/2021 23:27

Have you ever developed gestational diabetes OP? (If you've been pregnant of course!) I think that puts ppl on the list even if you don't have diabetes now

cloudtree · 22/10/2021 23:29

Just take it. Ds1 was given an appointment for a second jab even though he’s only 16. We ignored it knowing it was an error and then hit a call from the vaccination centre asking where he was. So he had it since it was on offer.

Gladioli23 · 22/10/2021 23:31

A first jab in February sounds early for mid thirties with no conditions? Did you then have your second in May? If so, you wouldn't be eligible for a booster until November.

It sounds to me like someone may somehow have identified you as eligible for a third primary dose as an immunosuppressed person, as that would be the only reason I can think of to be invited prior to 6 months.
