Lost smell a couple of days ago and taste today. Can taste salt and sweet and sour but no flavour. Any recommendations for what tastes ok?

Prawn cocktail walkers?

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 22/10/2021 19:27

The only things registering with me are marmite on toast, tomato soup and garlic bread. Appetite is gone though, but keeping up with light meals and fruit to help get through it.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/10/2021 21:23

Fruit tastes disgusting to me 😢I can taste salt, and lots of black pepper. Everything else tastes of nothing.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/10/2021 21:33

Sweet and sour sauce and noodles. I liked the texture of the noodles.

Maybe go for salty things with a crunch
And different textures.

Good luck.

onthinice · 22/10/2021 21:45

Salted pretzels, marmite on toast and 70% dark chocolate were the only things I could taste. I'm getting my taste back now but still no sense of smell.

AttaGirrrrl · 22/10/2021 21:47

I found satsumas and jelly babies were the only things I could taste.

annarack99 · 22/10/2021 21:50

Bourbons and fruit juice were the only things I enjoyed when I lost my sense of taste!

NeedSleepNow · 22/10/2021 22:33

I can only pick out if something is salty, very sweet or spicy but no actual flavour to anything. Food is so disappointing at the moment. The thing I miss most though is my morning coffee

Thesearmsofmine · 22/10/2021 22:38

I lost my sense of taste and smell a couple of days ago. The only thing I’ve been able to detect was some salt on a jacket potato(DH made it, I never use salt). Tried prawn cocktail crisps, salted butter and garlic bread but nothing. It’s very odd and cooking without any sense of smell is also weirdly challenging for me!

Chickpea22 · 22/10/2021 22:48

Miso soup, prawn cocktail crisps, bizarrely cauliflower and Parmesan soup. I’m finding it really irritating now (day 15). I miss flavour so much.

Bovril on toast and fresh ready prepared mango. The mango really soothed my sore throat - it was the only thing that the texture and taste were pleasurable and soothing. Chicken was totally weird….

Lindy2 · 22/10/2021 23:16

How about ice cream? Hopefully you'll taste sweetness and get the creamy texture and coldness. It could also be quite soothing if you've got a sore throat or cough.

I hope you recover soon. I lost my sense of smell but luckily it did come back again after only about 4 days, although it was a gradual return.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 23/10/2021 12:54

Thank for all of these. Marmite is a winner. Will try ice cream too.
It’s so strange. I could identify that I’m drinking coffee (for example) but it doesn’t taste of anything much.
The texture of apple was nice though.

Marmite on crunchy well done toast with marg/butter, flaming hot doritos, grapes as a bit crunchy and slightly sweet, vienetta ice cream due to dark choc and crunchy and cool, salt and vinegar crisps

Allsorts1 · 23/10/2021 14:49

Garlic bread & tangy haribo were the only things that made a tiny taste tingle for me!

Brightermornings · 23/10/2021 15:04

Lost mine last weekend. It's been a long week isolating and I can't even comfort eat ☹️

Frogsonglue · 23/10/2021 15:09

I'm eating an apple right now and it's quite nice. All savoury things taste unbearably salty.

mmmmmchocolate · 23/10/2021 15:12

I liked lockets, I think it was the cooling sensation on my tongue and in my nose. They were also great because when my senses started to come back, everything smelled like fire and then rotting meat 🤮 so they really took the edge of that.

HerRoyalWitchyness · 23/10/2021 15:13

DD (7) has lost her sense of smell/taste. Last night I made pizza and gave her garlic sauce with it. She got excited because she could taste the garlic so every bite was dipped I'm garlic sauce.
So I'm thinking go for strong smells/flavours such as garlic, onion, tuna. I also put sugar on her weetabix this morning as well as banana and blueberries. She said she could taste sweetness but not a lot.

Lostmarbles2021 · 23/10/2021 15:31

I second marmite on toast and tomato soup.
Sweet stuff is horrible. Can just vaguely taste sweetness but no flavour. Co-op chocolate and ginger cookies - the ginger was powerful.

Silkieschickens · 23/10/2021 15:37

Mango, mango yoghurt, lemon, sweet and sour veg cant taste as normal but taste sweet sour and texture. Salads good for texture and decided if couldnt taste anything may as well be healthy. Meat was awful.

NotMyCat · 23/10/2021 15:40

Wasabi peanuts if you don't mind a burning nose! I bought some off eBay the other week and my god they're spicy Grin

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 23/10/2021 15:58

Made a jacket potato and mashed it up with some butter, marmite and a bit of cheese. Was nice.
Tried some refreshers (sweets) and totally disgusting. Love hearts ok though :-)
