Family all positive, I'm Negative but ill??

So conundrum. Sequentially, my two daughters ad husband have all fallen prey to dreaded C19 after DD13 came home from boarding with it last Friday. I have the same symptoms they all did when it started - headache, nausea, 'weird head', shaky, inordinately tired, congested. But my (twice daily!) LFT's and yesterday's PCR are all negative. I'm double vaxxed (as is DH) and guess I could be fighting it but my immune system is keeping levels of virus below detectable levels, but it seems unlikely. Anyone else experienced similar?? It feels wrong to be going out to work etc feeling like this when everyone else in the house is infected, but the rules say I can and my place of work will expect me to as long as I'm testing negative (got a couple of days leave so not there right now...).

DH's symptoms and positive test came 10 days after first positive case in house.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/10/2021 15:01

DH is experiencing similar. Came down with a heavy cold at the weekend, but no COVID symptoms enabling him to get a test. Daily LFTs negative. DC2 had a temperature on Tuesday afternoon, confirmed on Wednesday by PCR to be COVID. We all then PCRed, and expected DH to be positive. But he's negative. He still has nasty cold symptoms, aches, and fatigue. His LFTs are consistently negative. He stayed off work this week, but his work are keen for him to return on Monday (can't WFH) and he's officially negative...but it feels risky.

Gienovere · 22/10/2021 15:03

Whether it’s covid or not if you can wfh do, no one wants to catch a heavy cold from you. Saying that not everyone can wfh, I’m which case just keep testing and near in mind PCRs are more reliable than LFTs.

Mindymomo · 22/10/2021 15:04

You could do another PCR tomorrow or Sunday just to be sure before going back to work.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 22/10/2021 15:06

Regardless of whether your negative for covid, something is making you feel unwell and experience those symptoms , so maybe it's best to stay home anyway until you feel better

BlibBlabBlob · 22/10/2021 15:21

Same in our house. DD fell ill on Sunday 10th Oct and took a PCR test on Monday 11th, which was positive. DH fell ill Tuesday 12th and did PCR that day, also positive. I held out - despite not trying to isolate from them at all within the house - until Monday 18th when I started to experience the kind of symptoms you're having. Negative LFTs Monday and Tuesday. Clear positive Wednesday, and Thursday, and today.

It's highly likely that you are brewing it and just not yet infectious enough to show on a test.

Don't go out or to work if you can possibly avoid it, and keep on with the daily LFTs. Remember that if you're feeling ill you have a right to call in sick! (Although if you don't get paid when off sick, I wouldn't judge you for going in regardless.)

I'm fortunate that my office is very COVID-anxious and as soon as DD tested positive they said I should work from home until we could all be 100% sure we didn't have any COVID anymore!

Syrup6 · 22/10/2021 15:39

I’d have another PCR in a couple of days. I am positive currently as is the whole family and laterals were showing negative even after a positive PCR. I wouldn’t risk going in work.

SarahBeenysBikerJacket · 22/10/2021 16:14

Same here, OP. DS2 came home from boarding on Saturday with covid. I've felt rotten since Monday, daily lft tests and a pcr all negative, until this morning. I'd assume you have it and keep testing

Passthecake30 · 23/10/2021 17:45

My ds had it, with symptoms. Dp tested positive after 2 days, 2 days after that I felt awful, achy legs, heavy cold/cough, exhausted etc, but all lft and PCRs were negative. So wierd. Dd didn’t catch it, so I’m waiting until it’s her turn, if I don’t get it then, then I’ve had it already!

Bluebellfae · 23/10/2021 20:22

This is me it also happened when my DS 10 had it late last year, I felt unwell but negative pcr.

My DS 12 has it currently and I feel unwell again but negative tests, even stranger symptoms than last time, currently awaiting pcr result but loads of LFTs negative
If the pcr is negative all I can think of is I think I had it last year mildly before testing was available, and each time im exposed to the virus my body flares up im sure there is something in this! Like your immune system reacts kind of saying" woah ive had you before go away" but you don't get infected

Im also double vaccinated pfizer xx

Same here. DD tested positive on Monday, her first symptoms were a banging headache then then next day a headache when she moved her eyes along with dizziness. I've been exactly like that yesterday and the night before, along with a tight wheezy chest, but negative LFT. I fully expect it to be positive last night.

Adarajames · 24/10/2021 04:04

I have pretty much all
Covid symptoms bar loss / change in taste and smell, going into 5th week of it and still feeling rubbish, but 9 tests over that time, both LFD and PCR, have all said negative, so I’ve come to accept the fact I have an old fashioned cold / flu bug. It’s possible you do too, seems to be little rhyme or reason as to who in a household catches it or doesn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

doesanybodyhaveamap · 24/10/2021 08:08

Positive test this morning...

OP posts:
Mindymomo · 24/10/2021 08:33

Sorry it’s taken this long, but if you go on 10 days since your first symptoms, you are further along in your isolation, if that’s any consolation. Hope you all get through it ok.

Bluebellfae · 24/10/2021 09:29

@doesanybodyhaveamap

Positive test this morning...
Oh no sending huge hugs hope your all okSad

Mine has come back negative again I dont understand it as def had symptoms again

TiddleTaddleTat · 24/10/2021 09:50

I had the same. Symptoms for a few days before LFT and PCR eventually positive. I isolated anyway and glad I did.

TiddleTaddleTat · 24/10/2021 09:51

Ah just seen your update. Sorry to hear that but at least there's clarity re. work. Fluids, rest, feet up, tissues, online food delivery, wait for it to pass.

BlueJag · 24/10/2021 10:04

That's how started for us and after about a week we tested positive.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 24/10/2021 11:38

Thanks for well wishes! Tbh I don't feel that much worse than I did Thursday/Friday when symptoms started but was testing negative. Now wondering when to start 'official' isolation from- was definitely symptomatic Thursday but if I've only now got a high enough viral load to test positive it feels wrong to say I'm 4 days in!!

OP posts:
Ellmau · 24/10/2021 12:40

I think T&T will date it from your positive test date.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 24/10/2021 12:58

For the rest of the family they've dated it from when symptoms started

OP posts:
SarahBeenysBikerJacket · 24/10/2021 13:01

I know what you mean, OP. The initial email took the isolation as from the date of the positive test, but then t&t took it from the date of first symptoms. Which in my case is a difference of 4 days! So I'm going to do a lft on the first 'release' date to see if I'm still infectious and take it from there. To be honest I'm not planning on doing much anyway; it's not like I've got a huge social calendar I'll need to cancel if I'm still infectious, I'm not the Queen.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 24/10/2021 14:10

@SarahBeenysBikerJacket 4 days here too!!

OP posts:
Adarajames · 27/10/2021 20:06

@SarahBeenysBikerJacket it’s likely to show as positive still as it can show positive up to 90 after you’ve had covid, which is why tests are not recommended during those 90 days. If you’re symptoms have gone and you’ve reached day 11 since symptom onset, or positive test if asymptotic, then you can end self isolation. If symptoms continue than you need to call 119 for advice prior to ending isolation

SarahBeenysBikerJacket · 29/10/2021 09:12

I hadn't realised the 90 days can apply to lft tests too.

Anyway as it happens isolation has ended today and I've tested negative. Which is just reassuring as my elderly mum wants to visit.
