What do people do to protect special events?

My friend's daughter is still at school and is getting married (aged 18) soon. She tells me the number of cases is going through the roof in her local area. If she gets covid just before her wedding it's a disaster on a number of fronts. What should she do? What are people doing to protect special events in their lives?

Most people I know are just not bothering with things like big weddings at the moment and have postponed or are waiting at least an other year, even things like birthdays, a friend is having a big 41st next year, rather than a big 40th this year.

Get insurance in case wedding is cancelled, but other than that there’s not a lot she can do, apart from doing LFT beforehand and being vaccinated. I really hope that there will be a decrease in cases with a lot of schools having a 2 week break, which will hopefully help stop the rise in cases in the under 20’s.

My daughter cancelled loads of social stuff (like us going to visit and taking her to the cinema and a reastaurant) as did all her friends last summer to try and protect their graduate showcase (she was studying performing arts)

It didn't work as her college saw fit to hold an in person awards ceremony with an audience a week before the event and one family attending tested positive a couple of days later. By day 6 there were 12 further cases amongst the students.

Sadly I don’t there is much she can do except wear a mask and social distance whenever possible or stay off school and switch the remote learning the week before the wedding. Covid is rife in schools due to the lack of any mitigation measures in English schools.

I hope she stays clear of Covid and can enjoy her wedding day.

Friends did not attend their friend's son's wedding which was a fortnight before their own son's wedding, and stopped doing anything but essential outings (work, collecting wedding stuff) for the fortnight before. They wore masks in any indoor place. Just the usual Covid 'safe' practices.

This was the fourth attempt at the wedding, and they were determined to be there.
