Positive lfts, negative pcrs, no symptoms

Both me and my son have tested positive on lateral flow tests (both came up pretty much straight away, the lines aren't strong but definitely there) - we have no symptoms but had been somewhere very busy and were testing before seeing someone vulnerable. But the pcrs just came back negative. It's so hard to know what to do! I know the official advice is to return to normal but it doesn't seem the right thing to do. Also don't want to coop the kids up inside all half term if we might get it again properly later. Has anyone been the same and ended up testing positive later or developing symptoms?

I'd just carry on as normal without a second thought.

I'd do further lateral flow tests from a different box. Don't eat or drink for at least half an hour beforehand if they are the throat swab type.

Mybalconyiscracking · 22/10/2021 07:28

Negative PCR trumps all, go back to normal.. don’t lock your kids up over this.

I've done another lft test this morning and it has come up positive again albeit less strongly. It was from the same box, waiting on some more arriving.

I guess we can go out but still avoid people, although now I have another positive lateral flow I should have another PCR I suppose.

I'm in the same boat, multiple positive LFTs (2 separate boxes) and a negative PCR. I'm wondering if it's a new strain that's not showing up with a PCR test

RaoulDufysCat · 22/10/2021 11:27

The chances are fairly good that the lateral flow is correct given current high community prevalence. You should probably avoid anyone vulnerable.

tikha · 22/10/2021 11:29

There is a lab mess up in regards to PCR so would trust the LFT instead of going for wishful thinking.

Itisasecret · 22/10/2021 11:29

Actually no, don’t go back to normal, get a postal. It’s people that are either selfish or lack critical thinking which are causing a real crisis in the SW.

After the recent testing fiasco at the Wolverhampton lab, I'd be inclined to err on the side of caution.

I’m surprised more people don’t know what happened in the south west where 43,000 people were wrongly told their pcr test was negative.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 22/10/2021 11:38

If three lfts have come up positive, it doesn't look great.

This has happened to my husband three times now
He’s completely asymptomatic, gets a positive lft and a negative pcr.
Carries on being asymptomatic.
Also doesn’t have antibodies to the natural infection when blood taken a few weeks later (we are in a research project)

All of the three times it’s happened over the last few months have been pretty much the same

Are lines getting stronger on the lateral flows? I had a faint positive on a lateral flow Tuesday followed by a negative pcr - I also got the test staff to do my pcr so I knew it was done properly. I've done two lateral flows since from two different packs and both negative. If I had still had a positive lateral flow with a darker line I would have gone for another pcr or if started with new or worse symptoms but luckily was negative and work told me to come in (nhs) apparently it's not as unusual as we think according to my boss , I feel ok apart from a minor cold (no cough or temp) actually felt more unwell the day around pcr . I'm also triple jabbed

Personally after the wolves and sw lab fiasco I would have thought extra care is being taken at labs ?? Or at least advice would change re isolating ?
