How long post covid for a negative LFT?

DC has had covid and is well past the 10 day isolation period but still registering a positive Lateral Flow.

Wondering how long after people are finding they are still testing positive? And are they still infectious if their test is positive?

We generally test 2/3 times a week as a household and have CEV family members.

I was negative on LFT 10 days after testing positive!

I’m still positive on an lft and I’m on day 10

Dd was negative on day 7 - but I’m still positive on day 7

If you are positive on a LF 10 days + after infection then most usually it's the dead virus being shed. The body has killed it but it's still leaving the body. The LF tests don't distinguish between live and dead covid cells.

I believe the only exception to this is if a person has been severely ill in hospital, their infection may go on for longer than 10 days.

Or if the person testing positive after 10 days still has a temperature and is fighting the infection still.

Mild infection usually results in a fairly quick subsequent negative test.

You shouldn’t be doing LFTs (or PCR) post Covid for 90 days unless you develop new Covid like symptoms.

It’s likely to remain positive for many weeks.

I’ve been wondering this, I tested yesterday on day 12 and still positive, it was actually darker than when I was still unwell Confused

By day 7 for ds.

You can test positive up to 90 days after infection so it's pointless testing in that time period. It does not mean you are still infectious.

Why are you still testing?

I don't get why people who are doing their 10 days in isolation are testing on day 7 - and I don't just mean references on this thread, I've heard of plenty of people doing it in real life too. What are you hoping to achieve/gain by it? A positive test means 10 days isolation. After that you can return to normal (unless you still have a temperature, I believe?), but a test after those 10 days tells you nothing. A waste of effort and plastic.
