The no testing 90 day guidance

This is a bit confusing but stick with me. DS 1 tested positive with a PCR,confined to room and on day 9 of his isolation tested negative on a LTF, but still stayed in his room until his 10 days were done.My DS2 tested positive on a LTF on day 9 of DS1 isolation,so we assumed he’d picked it up at school because he was allowed to keep going in. This was also confirmed with a PCR. On day 7 and day 11 of DS2 we all did LTFs for the school Weds/Sun system and we were all negative on both occasions. Now today we have done the weds test and DS2 has a feint line on positive. What the heck, so he immediately did another and this was negative!! Surely he can’t have picked it up in just 2 days back at school?
Reading the advice on GOV UK it says don’t test with either method for 90 days following a positive result, because of virus in system.
But he’d had negative results during and after his isolation period, so why a positive now? totally confused.com!
Is it new coming in or old going out. Surely a PCR will come back positive because he HAS just had it.
Any ideas how to look at this.??

Why were they doing the LFT tests when they aren't supposed to for 90 days?
LFT often give false negative test so the negative results could be because of that. Stop testing!

I’ve just spoke to test and trace as one of my children have had a positive pcr. Other child only came out of isolation Thursday after a positive pcr. They said for him not to test as he’d be positive anyway and he doesn’t have to isolate.

I didn’t realise we didn’t have to test for 90 days until I started digging this morning . Test and trace didn’t say anything about it either.
Both were asymptomatic so if we don’t test now for 90 days, how do we know if they catch it again?

They’ll have natural immunity for a certain amount of time so VERY unlikely to catch it again within 90 days. I think most people who have had it twice are 6months + since their first infection.

dementedpixie · 20/10/2021 13:52

They would be very unlikely to get it again as they would have antibodies from their first infection. You would only test if they got symptoms

Mypinkysperky · 20/10/2021 14:15

Yes that’s what I thought but heck knows what happens if they don’t show symptoms again. Just sheer bad luck I suppose and for everyone they’re in contact with.
Didn’t realise they couldn’t have the jab for 28 days after it either. A bit of breathing space, if they have built any immunity to it now.
