NHS website not letting eligible people book the booster

DM has been eligible for her booster jab for five days now. The GP surgery tells her to book online but the NHS booking website says she's not eligible!

Is the website doing this for many people, does anyone know how to fix it?

Oh how annoying!

If I were them I would phone up - I had an annoying issue booking my first jab and a phonecall fixed it as they could get to bits of the process a regular user can't.

Walk in is an option for boosters is for some people in my area, maybe other areas too.

Gladioli23 · 19/10/2021 21:23

Walk ins are also a big thing in my area too. If you Google "your area" COVID vaccine you might be able to find their local website, or they're often shown on "grab a jab" or if you let us know where you are I might be able to find them

Upsky · 19/10/2021 22:10

Look for your local CCG on Facebook. They advertise daily walk in centres who will do boosters.

SonnetForSpring · 19/10/2021 22:45

So annoying. Call GP to find out.

So are we all supposed to be booking ourselves in when we are eligible? I didn’t think that’s what we were told? Thought it was ‘wait to be contacted’. What a shambles.

OP my DM was eligible 3 days ago. DF has had his third; he was contacted. They are both going to the surgery for their flu vaccine tomorrow so I think they will ask then. Although they never had their other Covid vaccines at the surgery.

Had no idea you could go to a walk in for a booster. I think this roll out has been handled badly. A few days here and there make a difference as we are hoping to see them end of next week.

What age is eligible now please?
My DM is 75 but could not book on the website either.

As I understand it you are eligible when 6 months has passed since your 2nd jab.
middleager · 19/10/2021 23:12

Thanks eastegg. It should be early November for her then.

daisypond · 19/10/2021 23:17

Unless you’re a frontline health or social care worker, you have to wait to be contacted. You can’t just book yourself in, even if the six months have passed.

I’m finding this so annoying. I’m a good few weeks over the 6 months now and in a risky work position - teaching - where Covid is rife. I was in the shielding group but that no longer exists. I’m getting very frustrated with the “wait to be contacted”. Yes, but when?

I spoke to our surgery yesterday and was told that they’re not getting involved in booking boosters (with the first two doses they called and booked patients in) so it’s either a matter of keeping an eye on social media for walk in dates at the local hub, booking online or calling the NHS booking line.

My 86 year old mother’s booster is due this week and she’d been waiting for a call (as before), especially as my father uses a different GP practice and was called by them when his booster was due.

I took my father for his booster two weeks ago and it wasn’t anywhere near as well organised as when we went earlier in the year and I think that was due to the fact that they now accept walk ins so have no idea how many people will actually turn up at any time during the day. We had to queue to get onto the car park and then there was a 20 minute wait outside and another ten minutes once inside as there was only one nurse vaccinating and for elderly people (this was mainly the over 80s, the first group to be vaccinated back in January) this isn’t good at all.

This is true

GreenLunchBox · 20/10/2021 00:32

Tbh I think GPs are burnt out now

RoseMartha · 20/10/2021 00:37

I have a similar problem. Got a text with a link to say book it but the website wont load.

I am waiting for them to text me again. If I dont hear will have to contact them.?

480Widdio · 20/10/2021 02:06

I live in the Midlands,my area there are walk in centres,no need to book.I am going for my booster Thursday,to a Pharmacy whose Facebook page says they are doing them for anyone who has had there 2nd vaccine at least 180 days ago.

I went there for my previous doses, way before my GP started doing them.

This is another reason why booster jabs could be slower.
