Covid - what day did you start testing negative?

Flatwhitetostayin · 19/10/2021 12:19

We've all tested positive in our household. Am hoping that by day 8 I will test negative on a pcr so can stop isolating as am double jabbed. How many days in did you test negative? Thanks

I'm on day 8, double jabbed and tested positive on a LF test this morning.

Lol at posting a question about isolating on a predominantly UK based board, not stating you are from another country and then get surprised when the first ten answers are about isolating for ten days. DRIP.FEED.

Flatwhitetostayin · 19/10/2021 13:32

@Fashionesta
LOL at you for assuming that the uk country which you live in has the same rules as all the other home nationsWink
No drop feed as I didn't ask for the rules, I just asked a simple question about when people tested negative.

Thanks to everyone who has answered. I can be optimistic but won't be too disappointed if I do test positive. X

You’re not supposed to do any tests, lateral flow or PCR, for 90 days after testing positive.

Fashionesta · 19/10/2021 13:42

I stand corrected then. Still you could have just said eg I live in Wales to get the best advice!

Out of interest, which country are you in?

You indicate home nations - England and Wales will be ruled out because both require you to isolate for 10 days with no release if you test negative before 10 days is up.

icedancerlenny · 19/10/2021 13:47

I don’t know the answer to your question, but to answer the posters who say you can’t leave your house - you can to post PCR tests and even an antibody test! I had one and I sent my daughter as I wasn’t even well enough to go out but I could have legitimately walked or driven to the post box.

betterchangemynamequick · 19/10/2021 13:48

I don't think any of the UK nations' regulations allow you to end isolation before 10days if you've had a positive PCR.
Happy to be educated otherwise?

Er.. you asked because you said you wanted to know when to expect a negative result so you could leave isolation early which is not a thing in most of the U.K. if not all of it.

There are only a few reasons you can leave the house during self isolation for being positive and taking a second PCR test just for shits and giggles doesn’t really fit the bill!

Charming. Having a second pcr test is part of my country's covid protocol. So not exactly shits and giggles.[/quote]
I was clearly responding to the other poster who lives in England where it is not allowed!

ConstanceGracy · 19/10/2021 13:58

@Flatwhitetostayin

Where I live you take pcr tests on day 2 and day 8. If the day 8 is negative you can come out of isolation.
That sounds like the rules for returning to the U.K. after travel ?
ConstanceGracy · 19/10/2021 13:58

You are allowed to go to the post box in England to post your test back ..

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 19/10/2021 14:07

@BFrazzled there is no legal obligation to self isolate after a positive LFT, you are specially told to go and get a PCR test.

That’s very different to IN ENGLAND breaking isolation to go and take a second PCR just to see what it says.

Obviously that isn’t what the OP is doing as she is in another country. My point was that she will find few people in England who can share their experiences because here we are not allowed to go and take a second PCR during an isolation period if you have already had a positive one.

BFrazzled · 19/10/2021 14:22

@Tigerwhocameforsupper
No legal obligation, sure, but practically likelihood of spreading the virus leaving home after positive lft (ie when you are almost certainly ill and contagious) is greater than a weeks after after positive pcr (when you are almost certainly no longer contagious…

chipsandgin · 20/10/2021 00:05

It’s hard to believe OP as there aren’t any countries which require a negative PCR 8 days after a positive one because nobody would have one - you would show a positive result on a PCR for months after infection so it wouldn’t make any sense!?

The WHO advice that no test is required for patients recovering who were confirmed by PCR.

Also why would you take another PCR on day 2 after a positive PCR if you’d already tested positive on day zero - obviously you’d still be positive!? Wherever you are OP I think you’ve got the rules a bit confused..

The only Day 2/Day 8 rules that seem to exist are for return from travel abroad & are/were to check that people are testing negative on their return - if you test positive on Day 2 when returning from travel then that’s when your 10 day isolation starts & you’d have to remain in isolation until Day 12 after your return - no need for a Day 8 test if the Day 2 was positive - is that the situation!?

LagunaBubbles · 20/10/2021 00:12

You can test positive for months after the original infection!

saltinesandcoffeecups · 20/10/2021 00:35

In my country they advise (or did, who the hell knows anymore with all the changes) not to take a test for 90 days, as the tests will throw too many false positives to be of any use.

So I think OP, just do what needs to be done to get past this in your country.

HebeMumsnet · 20/10/2021 12:19

Hi OP! Just letting you know we've moved this over to our Coronavirus topic now.

Tiredout123 · 20/10/2021 12:29
