Son has been ill for a few days. Started on Friday night. He has been really rough and is usually extremely fit and healthy. These are his symptoms.

Sore throat
Loss of voice
Hot but not excessive
Sweated loads in bed so sheets wet
Vomited an enormous amount of fluid on Saturday
Chest tightness
Headache
Tired
Diarroah
He's barely eaten anything for 3 days now.

He has done 3 lateral flow tests all negative. Is it worth doing a PCR? but he doesn't feel well enough to leave the house.

Can you get a postal PCR?

Keep his fluid intake up and keep an eye on his temperature, I hope he feels okay soon op Thanks

Paddingtonthebear · 18/10/2021 14:56

Yes get a home / postal pcr!

Clutterbugsmum · 18/10/2021 15:00

Possibly. I would test just in case.

We had similar here. Dd had sore throat, loss of taste and general cold symptoms. Six of her friends tested positive for Covid. DD did 3 LFT tests all negative but we still did a PCR test to be on the safe side and that was negative too. So there are other cold/flu bugs around as well

BatshitCrazyWoman · 18/10/2021 15:23

Mine started with losing my voice. I'd get a postal PCR. I did a postal test as no way was I up to driving 6 miles to the test centre.

ODFOgrinch · 18/10/2021 15:53

If he has symptoms you should do/have done a PCR test.
LFT are not the right test for symptom sufferers.

Bluntness100 · 18/10/2021 15:56

It could be he has food poisoning.

WhatMattersMost · 18/10/2021 16:08

As PPs have said, do a postal PCR. It sounds like Covid, but it could also be flu.

Mindymomo · 18/10/2021 16:17

LFT are meant for people with no symptoms, book a home PCR test just to be sure.

onthinice · 18/10/2021 16:18

Yes lots of the symptoms of covid there.

Lindy2 · 18/10/2021 16:23

Yes. You need to do a PCR test.

SirensofTitan · 18/10/2021 16:33

If only we get a test result by asking online, it would save no end of trouble Grin

Get a test you numpty Grin

Bluntness100 · 18/10/2021 16:54

@onthinice

Yes lots of the symptoms of covid there.
And lots of symptoms of other things. I think people have started to think that everything is Covid and no other illness exists. D&v, aye it’s Covid.
MegaGengar · 18/10/2021 17:03

Yes, symptoms of COVID need a PCR test, even if lat flow negative. You can order a postal kit if he isn't well enough to go out

walksen · 18/10/2021 17:10

"And lots of symptoms of other things. I think people have started to think that everything is Covid and no other illness exists. D&v, aye it’s Covid."

Given the very high level of prevalence in kids especially secondary, there's a strong possibility and higher probability that it could be covid as opposed to food poisoning or flu.

Unless the op's has already had covid recently it is not exactly scaremongering to test for it.

yourfavouritemuggle · 18/10/2021 18:13

My sons just recovered after experiencing the same symptoms. He had a negative PCR and 2 negative LFTs 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hibiscusroses · 18/10/2021 20:56

I'd ask 111 for advice.

BuzzLite · 18/10/2021 21:00

@Bluntness100 no one is saying it is definitely covid, just that it is worth doing a home PCR to check.

If he's unwell and in the house anyway....what is the purpose of a test?
BuzzLite · 18/10/2021 21:24

Everyone else in the house knows to watch out or isolate depending on their status.
You don’t visit your elderly relatives/friends.
The scientists get to see what variants are at large.

Sure I don’t disagree, my point is the first thing people think of now is Covid. Like everything else has faded into non existence.

I got quite Ill after some anti biotics, got the runs, went to th docs and he said possibly it’s covid, I knew it wasn’t Covid, but he was adamant it was most likely that, because having no temp, no other symptoms other than cramps and diarrhoea for a couple of weeks is most likely Covid

And no it wasn’t Covid. A stool sample showed It was a bacterial infection in my gut. But even the gp actually stated you might be infectious it could be Covid. It’s ludicrous. If he’d used any common sense at all he’d have not jumped to the least likely and totally bafflingly incorrect diagnosis.

CharlotteRose90 · 18/10/2021 22:00

Same symptoms here and my pcr was negative. It’s a very horrible cold that’s going round sadly .

floridapalmtree · 19/10/2021 20:30

Thanks for (almost) all your opinions. The reason I posted on here is because there are a lot of people with a variety of symptoms with covid so wanted thoughts on whether his symptoms sounded like he had it.

I requested a PCR yesterday which he has done and I posted today, I'll update the result here tomorrow hopefully.
