Deep chest pain

Needanewadventure2021 · 17/10/2021 22:11

So im finally recovering from covid. It's not been very pleasant but luckily I escaped the chest problems. Im now day 14 and its the first day where I've felt able to do anything, although it's hasn't been much!

Anyway I've noticed a really deep pain in the left side of my chest today. Like through to the back. Very uncomfortable at times.

Suppose I'm hoping someone will tell me this is normal and nothing I need to worry about?

Thanks

It needs looking at. Call 111 because it could be something and it could be nothing. Don't leave it though as secondary infections such as pneumonia can go hand in hand with covid.

Good luck op hope you feel better soon.

Needanewadventure2021 · 17/10/2021 22:17

Even if I don't feel like I have breathing problems?

Have you got an oximeter so you can measure your oxygen levels?

Needanewadventure2021 · 17/10/2021 22:22

Yes I have

Its saying 93?

OP posts:
Wagsandclaws · 17/10/2021 22:35

93 needs a phone call now! Mine dropped to 92 earlier in the week ( I'm in day six of covid ) and I needed steroids as my asthma isn't coping well with the covid.

You need to speak to a hcp.

Heartofglass12345 · 17/10/2021 23:41

Definitely ring 111 your sats should be as close to 100 as possible, mine are usually around 98/99

KILNAMATRA · 18/10/2021 08:02

You ok this morning Needandwantadventure2021?

Needanewadventure2021 · 18/10/2021 08:50

I had a 111 assessment at 6.30. They tried to make me a doctors appointment but couldn't so I called at 8am and have a phone call sometime this morning. Woke up and it was 86. Abit later it was 92. 2 and a half hours from first testing this morning its 94. Other than the pain in my chest i wouldn't have thought checking my oxygen levels.

I've also tested my DS and he is at 98/99

If it was 86, you’d be struggling to breathe & desperately needing oxygen. So that reading is nonesense.

I have a home one & sometimes mine throws out a random 80 figure. I’m on day 12 here & my reading is sitting at 96. That’s about standard for covid according to my asthma nurse. Any lower than 95 & they’d be concerned.

Needanewadventure2021 · 18/10/2021 12:30

I'm sat in A&E. Reading is still 93

But Covid can cause very very low oxygen levels without the usual warning signs. That's one of the very many reasons it's such a horrible virus.

I hope you're ok OP and you get seen soon.

Needanewadventure2021 · 18/10/2021 17:15

Well covid really has thrown me, I honestly would never have thought my levels were low. I didn't take into account the reading in the 80s earlier anyway, but it was still considered low at 93.

I'm back home now. Nothing nasty in the chest, just typical of what they expect to see post covid infection. Just got to try and improve oxygen levels now

93 is low & you 100% needed to be checked. Hope you feel better soon!

Even covid doesn’t cause silently low oxygen as low as 86%. You’d be seriously struggling at 86%. It’s putting people in the lower 90’s without them realising sometimes. But even at 93, the OP has been sent home to just rest & recover basically. It doesn’t always mean there’s anything to be done. But obviously, needs double checking!

Needanewadventure2021 · 18/10/2021 19:01

Yes @Bobholll it felt abit silly going and sitting there all those hours but I do understand it was worthy of checking. It's mad though as I would never have known they were low. To be honest I didn't thingk 93 was low but apparently it is. But nothing could be done other than allow my body to rest and heal on it's own

This is wrong and dangerous advice that needs correcting. Yes with “normal” conditions like asthma you would be symptomatic, but not with covid. Patients were getting down to that level and feeling fine. Happy hypoxia. They would go from feeling fine to dropping 1 more percent and then dying in front of relatives/doctors as there was no warning signs you usually get if low oxygen levels and have time to act like get an ambulance/to hospital/to ITU.

Again: incorrect information.

That’s why people are being given pulse ices at home and asked to phone when low 90’s as they’re still feeling well at that point and wouldn’t even think about it with other illnesses.

DILevil · 18/10/2021 19:08

Sorry cross posts with what @Needanewadventure2021 said. See @Bobholll patients don’t feel their oxygen is low with covid when it is.

Needanewadventure2021 · 18/10/2021 19:39

It's frightening really how covid behaves. If it wasn't for posts on here telling me to test my oxygen I'd never have known. I know nothing can be done but after reading the above I am so glad I did go today

sorry that is not true that Covid doesn't silently cause low oxygen in 80s. I am close to someone who suffered from "happy hypoxia" with Covid. They were not obviously struggling for breath and when they got a pulse oximeter on day 5 of illness they were mid 80s sats and blue lighted to hospital for immediate oxygen support and blood thinners (D dimer etc were very high too).

Glad OP has been checked.

Heartofglass12345 · 18/10/2021 22:43

I'm glad you got checked out, definitely the right thing to do. Hope you're feeling better soon
