DD2 has covid

GherkinsOnToast · 17/10/2021 10:47

DD2 tested positive this morning, she started coughing Friday night but was negative until today. I am freaked out because I am a severe brittle asthmatic and have been so careful, staying away from peopley places, sanitising everyone and everything that comes into our house. We are sanitising, DD2 is banished to her room and bathroom, masks on to see her etc. and DH is dealing with all her wants/needs.

Talk nice calm happy things at me please.

What age is she? Would it be better for you to move out for a while?

I’m assuming you’re jabbed?

seb342 · 17/10/2021 10:51

My father has brittle asthma and caught covid but he was fine. No really bad symptoms and he was also worried like you must be. Also worth noting my step mother and sister didn't catch covid from him and he wasn't banished to the bedroom so hopefully you'll be lucky and I hope your daughter makes a speedy recovery.

She's 10 - I can't move out as there is no where for me to go. I'm double jabbed and had my booster booked for next week but that won't go ahead now.

I have difficult asthma and my dr had me record my sats each day as she was hoping to get me in hospital the minute it dropped. I didnt go to hospital and was okay.

PinkCricket · 17/10/2021 11:05

I hope your faughter is okay. Be vary wary of making her feel like a leper or "scared of killing mum" as I know I had to be careful around that with my kids.

Twobirdsinatree · 17/10/2021 11:08

My 3yo is asthmatic and has been hospitalised quite a lot with breathing difficulties in her short life..
We all got covid last year. 4 of us in the household.
She had a runny nose and that was it. No other symptoms and no breathing issues at all.
Just telling you that to maybe be a bit comforting.
Because I was terrified she would certainly die if she caught covid but she barely had any symptoms.
Just make sure to keep as much distance as possible and not share towels and soap amd crockery etc etc just do the best you can and im sure you will be okay
You've been vaccinated which lowers your chances of being badly effected if you do catch it

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 17/10/2021 11:12

Can you isolate and she be the one that can have the run of the rest of the house and garden?

Wagsandclaws · 17/10/2021 11:23

I've got severe asthma, me, ds1, ds2 dd and Dh are all in days 6 and 7 of covid and so far so good.

I didn't get the cough but I still went onto steroids as a precaution as my sats did go down to 92 during the night. I'm taking my extra doses of inhalers too and it's honestly fine.

I was terrified when I found out but it's honestly been like a bad cold or virus. I hope you manage to avoid getting it op but if not the chances are that you'll be just fine.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 17/10/2021 11:25

Why wouldn’t your booster go ahead? If you’re double vaccinated you can still go, assuming you don’t test positive for covid, no?

SummerHouse · 17/10/2021 11:32

How is your daughter feeling about it? It's a huge challenge to make sure she doesn't feel anxious / guilty. I think you need to focus on the fact you are double jabbed. Every chance you will avoid getting it but if you do, the double jab will most likely mean you get only mild symptoms.

Vallmo47 · 17/10/2021 11:42

So I can tell you my experience of covid. DD9 suffered a severe chest infection in February 2020 and was very, very unwell. When covid hit, so did my health anxiety as I have been hospitalised twice with pneumonia and consider myself and my daughter vulnerable.
DD9 tested positive and her only symptom was a runny nose. I tested positive two days after and neither of us developed a cough at all. It’s okay if she gets a cough, it does not mean it will be anything sinister.
We did not keep a distance prior, during or after covid. My husband and my 13 year old son did not catch it at all. My daughter was never sick at all and for me it was a mild illness. Staying calm really helps your anxiety. It’s not fair in my opinion to close her away when she’s poorly at this age, that will scare her. But that’s my opinion and I’d rather get severely ill myself than scare my kids.
Have you got an oximeter so you can see for yourself your stats? A way to check your blood pressure? Truly, all will be ok.

Mindymomo · 17/10/2021 14:32

Has she had it confirmed by PCR test that she has covid, then you all should get tested. If you are negative you can go for your booster.

GherkinsOnToast · 17/10/2021 14:49

She had a PCR this morning and the rest of us are waiting for postal tests to arrive. The said because of the PCR fiasco in our area if a LFT is positive then we must isolate. We will all keep testing, daily and speak to my specialist team in the morning. The person at the test centre said they wouldn't give me my booster if there was a positive household member (?).

Pulse Ox meter on its way now - have gone for one recommended by our GP.

Thanks everyone
