Anyone caught it after booster?

I know it's early days. But I haven't heard of this yet.

Oh come on.

It will still be possible to catch covid after the booster.
Same as its possible to catch it after the vaccines.

Do people still think any jab is going to stop transmission??

I mean FFS

SandyStarfish · 17/10/2021 00:05

Rude! Of course I know it's going to happen. I'm just wondering about others' experiences. Did I say I thought it would stop transmission?? Attitude problem.

Hence the early days comment. I know it'stoo early to compare experiences of it post-booster, but I'm intrigued.... some of you are so unpleasant. Or get your kicks in a very odd way!

Ok. I must have read you wrongly.
Apologies.

SandyStarfish · 17/10/2021 00:11

Maybe just stop being snidey? Life is unpleasant enough, surely. Anyway, back to my question. I know two people double vaxxed who have also had Covid twice. Wondering about what effect the booster will have.

It's all such unchartered territory to most of us. If remember the expectation being that you wouldn't get Covid after the vaccine. That changed to after the second dose and now it's the booster.

I think it's the case that we can all still get it but it's how the vaccine responds.

Looks like we are fully into herd immunity now.

ssd · 17/10/2021 00:12

@SandyStarfish, i take my apology back. You dont deserve it.

SandyStarfish · 17/10/2021 00:14

I hope so. The amount it is going around schools. My fingers are crossed that this wave will die down by xmas. That is based on no data by the way, just a hope! Although I work for TTP and it is definitely the busiest we've been so far at the moment.

Yeah, she over-reacted to your post
I'm sick of people thinking the vaccine means you are suddenly immortal

It's really hard to know as covid is no longer the hot topic. I had covid, double vaxxed and been exposed since. I want to know how bad it would be to catch it a second time. But.. .. as you say it's such early days and so unpredictable. Your only to hear anecdotal stories at this stage. Not enough data to draw anything from.

I read on here last week someone had mild covid, double vax, then get seriously ill. But the only story I have heard so it's useless info really.

Too small a sample size yet I would say. Anything seems possible with covid too. I knew no one yet caught it. But no one living with me caught it from me so its unpredictable

SandyStarfish · 17/10/2021 00:25

I guess I'm just here for the anecdotal stories. Out of interest more than anything. I've had my booster and not worried about catching it, but I do wonder if people will generally be less ill after the third, or cold-like symptoms still, and be further boosted against serious illness.

Early indications from Israel are that the booster restores vaccine efficacy to very high levels: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2021/09/15/covid-boosters-pfizer-says-israel-data-shows-third-shot-restores-efficacy-to-95percent.html

chipsandgin · 17/10/2021 00:45

I’d assume that the booster restores the original but waning decreased risk of both transmission and of becoming seriously ill or hospitalised when you do get it - just as the first two vaccines did.

The efficacy wanes with time so it is just a top up/booster. You can still get Corona, still transmit it and still be ill with it when you are vaccinated - they are all just less likely scenarios.

Apparently an unvaccinated 50 year old has the same risk level as a fully vaccinated 80 year old - so for the elderly and vulnerable remaining at the peak of the efficacy of vaccinated status is really important, hence the boosters. However having the booster won’t change the (reduced but still there) risk level you already had of getting Covid after being double vaxxed - it can always happen so there will be people who have had three vaccines and get Covid. However, for now even the anecdotal stories of those that have will be minimal as there are so few people who’ve had the booster.
