Travelling abroad with an under 18 who's recently had Covid

I have googled extensively and cannot find the answer to my question so wondering if any of you wise ones have any words of advice!

Going abroad at half term to Spain - me, DH, our three teenagers, two of whom are 16 and had 1 jab, 1 is 14 so no jabs. We are also taking our 14 year old's best friend.

Fly in the ointment, 14 year old's friend came out if isolation after having Covid yesterday. The kids PCR tests for travel are all booked for three days before we fly. But people keep telling me she can't have another PCR test for 90 days after having Covid. But she has to have one and it has to be negative for her to travel?

Also given it's so soon after she's had it obviously it may be positive which will mean she can't come with us. Or is there any documentation to say you've recently recovered from it? I suspect that would be asking for the moon on a stick!

Any words of advice gratefully received!

And in fact my DD will have been fully vaxxed but is also under 16 so she won't have a pass either!

@dreamingofbeaches2022 My 14 year old has to have a negative LFT to fly…I think it only 16 and over that can get the Covid pass.

Chardonnay73 · 16/10/2021 22:54

And I think that the one vaccine that teens have is not counted as fully vaccinated for travel 🤷‍♀️

Kinlocrhum · 16/10/2021 23:00

The one vaccine is for immunity, not for travel.

Under 18's returning to the UK from abroad with their fully vaccinated parents are treated as being exempt from pre travel testing etc. But will still have to take a day 2 test on return.

No - it’s not, but mine can have 2 for health reasons but still can’t prove it so seems would have to have a test as well and keep testing once in France to be allowed in anywhere!

Under 18s can get Covid pass, my 17 year old daughter has it. It shows both her vaccinations and her proof of recovery.

DD is 14 so she can’t get a pass despite having 2 vaccinations ( or will have soon).

You really have to look at each countries entry requirements carefully. For example my DC age 13 has had Covid, and to enter Germany can just show proof of the positive PCR test. That in turn is proof of recovery - as long as the PCR test is dated at least 28 days prior to entry, but no more than 6 months.
Simple. However to enter France from the UK would need an Antigen Test no older than 24 hours. Every country is different!! Argh!

dreamingofbeaches2022 · 16/10/2021 23:29

I know- it’s so annoying. We’re going to France and I will have one double vaxxed teen and 1 12 year old who’s had covid and they will both still need to test before going and whilst there every 48 hours!

aramox · 17/10/2021 06:21

Over13 s can get the pass, according to nhs website.

cptartapp · 17/10/2021 07:24

We had similar in the summer after DS had Covid.
We did the swabs at home and swabbed me twice but labelled one as his. Same with the LFT's coming back.
Who's to know?

So the pcr to go to Spain was negative? Odd![/quote]
No PCR was needed to go to Spain as DC is under 12.

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 17/10/2021 08:22

@Karwomannghia

Thank you. Did she not need a negative pcr to fly to Spain though?
No test was needed to travel to Spain because DC is under 12.

LFT to return to England was negative but Day 2 PCR was positive.

Can you link to this please @aramox, it says 16+ when I just checked

Yes I would love to know how I can get the NHS pass for my daughter as we go to Italy on Tuesday and she'll have to keep having tests despite having the vaccine. the gp has linked her profile to mine on the NHS app but it's still not showing her vaccination.
