Where are the new variants?...

We had a spate in a few months from December through to April: the U.K., Brazil, S.A. and India all producing ones of concern, with others emerging alongside them... However, and m probably tempting fate writing this, there hasn't been anything significant for a while....

I'm wondering if that's because Delta is, firstly, so transmissible that there's little scope left for any significant change that would give a new variant an edge and, secondly, Delta is able to continue to propagate despite vaccines, albeit that the vaccines take the edge off and reduce its harmful effects...

@Piggywaspushed

Evidence of her hard left ideology please.

Are you a member of the Francois Balloux fanclub??

I judge her by the company she keeps, e.g. card-carrying communist Susan Michie, and also just by looking at the topics she tweets about!

Yes I do like Balloux. Have joined the Andrew Lilico fanclub too.

Covid is anxiety-inducing enough as it is, without paying attention to those who perpetually whip up fear and anxiety in others.

Piggywaspushed · 16/10/2021 19:11

In other words she isn't hard left as you said. Admit it; you had her confused with Michie and are now back pedalling.

Newsflash : scientists do not always agree with each other, and soem even have political opinions. Pagel was right that there was something up with the negative PCRs. Balloux got that wrong.

It’s simple science. Delta is so transmissible and so dominant that nothing else is getting a look in.
Which is greater as either through catching Delta or being vaccinated, we will eventually be at the point where this is background noise.

[quote Sagaaaats]They'll bring a new one out beginning Dec so that the governments plan B gets implemented and we will have to have vaccine passports.

Which means they will want to push vaccinating the unvaccinated with a vaccine that was made for The Alpha variant

Even when their own data shows that per 100,000 people the cases are in the vaccinated for each bracket in the 30+ age categories

Someone showed an amazing infographic to show why this is so recently.

It was to do with the fact that in some age groups 90% are fully vaccinated so the cases would be higher.

Pagel was also given an award by the BMJ so they obviously value her contributions.

Who are ‘they’ and where are they busy creating a new variant?

Piggywaspushed · 16/10/2021 19:21

Yes, tea that's the one I am referring to. She obviously brainwashed them too. A number of male scientists sulked.

Yes, I agree, sorry didn't express myself clearly. I meant I don't think the BMJ would give an award to someone whom they believed was "scaremongering"
Sagaaaats · 16/10/2021 19:58

It's per 100,000 people not how many are vaccinated

As well as seeing more infections among the vaccinated than the unvaccinated (especially in middle-aged people), because there are more of them, you have to consider what they do. Healthcare professionals, people working in education, retail, police and other public facing workers are both more likely to be vaccinated and more likely to be infected. People who will not or cannot be vaccinated are more likely to avoid the chance of being infected (unless anti-vaxxers or really don’t care). So vaccinated people are not more likely to become infected because they’ve been vaccinated. Many are more likely to become infected because their age, profession and/or situation makes them more likely to a) be vaccinated in the first place and b) be exposed to infection.

I was wondering this exact thing the other day so thanks for this interesting thread.

I had been slightly sceptical that the major fear about constant new variants all happened in the months leading up to the wider vaccine rollout, then went quiet when we got the jabs!

Yes, let's be grateful that the dominance of Delta because of its super-transmissibility is prevent others more deadly variants like Mu from getting a foothold.

Just behave you aren't hearing about variants in the news it doesn't mean they don't exist and aren't being tracked.

Oldgoat2021 · 23/10/2021 14:15

Good thread here. Seems like this new variant is a bit more transmissable than the original Delta but not more dangerous.

The next variant will be along just in time for when we need to lockdown / stop household mixing again. Mark my words.
