Slim fast for could-be-covid (can't eat)

My throat is far too sore to eat real food apart from soup and yoghurt. Slim fast is OK once a day or so, isn't it? Just to get some nutrition down.

How about ice cream and ice lollies? Staying hydrated is more important than actual calories.

rrhuth · 16/10/2021 08:38

No, you'd be better with real food e.g. hot chocolate, banana smoothies, soup. Have something nice like ice-cream.

superram · 16/10/2021 08:38

Yes though fybogel (I think that’s what it’s called) would be better if you need to keep your calories up.

LIZS · 16/10/2021 08:40

Complan or fortisips are probably better balanced.

Neonplant · 16/10/2021 08:43

Protein shakes or just regular milkshakes would also work too. But I'd say anything you can get down to get some nutrition while you are ill is fine!

SprayedWithDettol · 16/10/2021 08:49

Fybogel is for constipation. I’m not sure OP is requiring help I. That department. 😂

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 16/10/2021 08:50

Thanks all.

Yeah I'm not constipated 😄

Yes the shakes contain nutrients so better that than nothing at all.

gogohm · 16/10/2021 08:53

Unless you are underweight I wouldn't worry about food but ensure you drink enough, 2-3 days without food won't hurt you. The slim fast shakes or complan drinks are a good idea if you are worried about nutrition, some of have more in reserve than others. I would suggest taking a multivitamin if you can tolerate swallowing it. If after 72 hours you still can't eat call 111 for advice

PeterPomegranate · 16/10/2021 08:54

I’m sure they’re fine but they’re for people trying to lose weight. So id recommend something like complan if you aren’t feeling well and need easy to eat nutritionally balanced calories.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

GoldChick · 16/10/2021 08:56

Complan is good for this. But slim fast will do if you've got it in and can't get anything else.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 16/10/2021 09:02

Just thinking that eating hardly anything will make me even more tired. I'm a teacher so I really need to get better and back in to school.

Fybogel is a fibre based laxitive!!! I wouldn't take that for extra calories as it would have the exact opposite effect of what you wanted !!!!!!!
ArblemarchTFruitbat · 16/10/2021 09:09

Tesco own brand shakes are both cheaper and tastier. Make them with full-fat milk if you want it to be more nutritious.

Warhertisuff · 16/10/2021 09:11

I'd add some sugar to the shakes... It's not really a time for a restricted calorie diet.

I would say hot chocolate or ice cream are foods not in a nutritional sense anyway.
Guacamole001 · 16/10/2021 10:44

The vanilla flavour Complan is very tasty.

ODFOgrinch · 16/10/2021 10:57

Complain is a high calorie nutritionally rich supplement.
Slim fast is nutritionally dense but won't have as many calories as complain.

Frankly anything you can get into yourself is a good thing.

ODFOgrinch · 16/10/2021 10:58

Complan not complain 😀

Tigerblue · 16/10/2021 11:00

If it's what you've got in, or what you fancy, then certainly better than nothing. Worth looking at other options suggested in this thread for other times in the day. Are you up to/or someone else in household up to making soup as that'd be nutritious. Hasn't got to be a fancy recipe, small well cooked veg in a stock, or something like potatoes, onion, whatever else you have liquidised with stock.

FindingMeno · 16/10/2021 11:01

I've got lots of mouth ulcers and have lost my appetite.
Because I'm not underweight I'm not worrying too much and letting my body tell me what to do.
If you're hungry I'd go for soup first.

Getawaywithit · 16/10/2021 11:53

I drank Complan all the time I had covid. Worked well for me.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 16/10/2021 12:20

I've managed some supernoodles (didn't eat anything yesterday) which contain precisely zero nutrition

They were comforting though.
