Should we get a PCR retest?

Just after a bit of advice - dd was testing positive on lateral flow tests so we took her for a pcr. She was asymptomatic but ds had covid at the time - he was poorly and he had tested positive on both lateral flow and pcr.

The pcr came back negative- a few days later we took her for another pcr as the lateral flow tests were still positive. This pcr was also negative.

Today we had a text advising her to take another pcr as the result might not be accurate (I’ve been sure she had covid and it wasn’t accurate). Is there any point in doing this? The date of the pcr was Oct 4th so we’re past when the isolation period would have been and she’s now testing negative on lateral flow tests?

I wouldn’t bother. Too long ago and tested negative since.

Hmm, doesn't seem much point. Frustrating though, because it means that her record is inaccurate.Confused

Yes, the point about it not being on her record was the thing we were thinking about. But perhaps that’s not important really. And perhaps the positive lateral flows will be as we reported them.

What record would it be on and why would this matter?

MrsGru · 15/10/2021 17:26

On her medical records. I suppose in case it was relevant to any illness or treatment in the future. I might be overthinking this and it probably doesn’t matter!

It would annoy me too @MrsGru, though I can't really articulate why. Grin

Yes, I just like things to be correct!

We've had exactly the same - also tested on 4 October, so out of what would have been the isolation period. It's crazy.

They are probably asking so they can see how widespread the problem of false negatives really is - it would help with data.

But I’d want to know if you they would need to isolate if it’s a retest due to lab error and it was actually positive on 4/10

Plus it would be on medical record.
