Keep isolating if you have a runny nose after Covid 10 date isolation

My DD has had Covid and she is last one of all of us to catch it. It's her 10th day of it, but test and trace say she has to keep isolating if she has a runny nose. They are reading from a script so couldn't tell me why. She hasn't been out of the house or garden for over 2 weeks and none of us have either.

Runny nose isn’t an official symptom there is way I’d be staying in. Just make sure uses tissues and bag them up and use hand sanitiser.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 15/10/2021 11:55

Isnt it only if you still have a fever? And obviously the 48hrs post sickness and diarrhoea for school and nursery
Have you checked online for the guidance?

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 15/10/2021 11:55

Did they say symptoms or runny nose? The cough and lack of taste or smell can last ages

Fayrazzled · 15/10/2021 11:57

I’ve had the same message from Test and Trace. If you have any symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, diarrhoea, keep isolating. Only should return to normal activities of cough or anosmia remains. Which seems contradictory given that they aren’t symptoms that would trigger a test in the first place as per NHS guidance but it’s definitely what I’ve been told twice by the Test and Trace callers who have rung to check I’m isolating.

Fayrazzled · 15/10/2021 11:58

IF cough…

hpstitch · 15/10/2021 11:59

I can't find anything about it online. Test and trace phone all the time, they are real people but you can't really interact with them.

This is what the NHS says…

Keep isolating if you have a runny nose after Covid 10 date isolation

@Needcoffeecoffeecoffee

They said cough is fine to stop isolating, that it could continue for a few weeks. It was the runny nose and sneezing issue. DD has green snot, so it seems that's the end of an infection according to Google, but just wondering if we can go out, just normal stuff not the soft play yet. Probably not ? Maybe I'll just write off October completely.

@PurpleDaisies yep but it's not what test and trace are saying on their many phone calls, so I guess I have to follow their lead. It's like a secret thing about snot.

We were told fever carry on isolating but also if new symptoms develop.
At this rate my household won't see the outside world til next summer.......

Yes, exactly the same message was read to me in both phonecalls that I have had from T&T. I didn't quite take it in the first time as it's such a change from the written guidance and like you say should not trigger a PCR in the first place.

I tend to have a runny nose most days!

mariebaby3 · 15/10/2021 12:17

Hmmm I rung 111 as my DD had this and was on day 14. They told me that as long as she doesn’t have a fever she can go out again. Seems no one really knows what the correct thing to do is in this situation.

ColettesEarrings · 15/10/2021 12:40

Pffft, my son had a snotty nose for thirteen bloody weeks straight when he started reception. Not a freaking chance I'd isolate him for thirteen weeks once he'd recovered and completed a covid isolation!

tiddlysquat · 15/10/2021 12:53

Yes bugger that I'm expecting my runny nose to last until next spring now !

Quotelover · 15/10/2021 12:56

Yep, T and T told me yesterday that if after my 10 days I have a runny nose or sneezing then I must continue to isolate 😳

Mybalconyiscracking · 15/10/2021 12:57

Nope, wouldn’t do this.

Haffiana · 15/10/2021 13:03

It is EXACTLY what test and trace are saying. It is EXACTLY the same as the NHS advice:

You can stop isolating after 10 days IF you have NO symptoms apart from cough and sense of smell/taste.

Bobholll · 15/10/2021 17:24

I’m out of isolation tomorrow & I’m still extremely congested. My face hurts. I actually spoke to my GP today & she thinks it’s probably a secondary sinus infection triggers by the congestion. She said I didn’t need to keep isolating but if I’m no better on Monday, she’ll give me some antibiotics. Interestingly, my lateral flow test has changed from positive yesterday to negative today so I’ll check again tomorrow & if it’s still negative, I’m running out the door & off to enjoy a day out with my kids 🙌🏼 Work laughed when I said I was told to isolate with a continued runny nose. They said I must be back in after the 10 days.. so regardless, I’ll be back in the office on Monday!

Bobholll · 15/10/2021 17:25

Yes @Haffiana - but the NHS symptoms are cough, fever, smell & taste. So by no symptoms they mean none of those. Test & Trace are saying something different ..

ChristmasCovid · 15/10/2021 19:42

You keep isolating if you still have a fever/sickness or diarrhoea or a runny nose & sneezing as these are the symptoms that may mean the person is still infectious.

So any cold symptoms in October then!

It says 'symptoms'. Not 'NHS symptoms'.
