England does not recognise 1 vaccine like some EU countries?

I think I'm correct in saying that if you've only had one dose of Pfizer / Moderna / AZ because you have had proven covid, then you count as unvaccinated for purposes of entering England ?

Even though it does state that the EU digital vaccination certificate is considered proof of vaccination for entering England. On the EU certificate it will state that you are fully vaccinated, if you've only had one dose and had proof of recovery from covid.

I think they'll then check the certificate carefully to see if you've had two doses?

Has anyone been in this situation?

Seems pretty terrible that you would be counted as unvaccinated entirely and be made to pay all this money for tests and quarantine..

Yes, it's like teens here. Being considered fully vaccinated on one dose, but that not allowing nary to countries where it has to be two.

Each country sets its own terms on this, and yes, they don't match tidily.

If it's a holiday, seek a different destination, if it's family visit swop to being host rather than traveller,, and if it's business travel, have your employer pay all necessary travel expenses including tests

It's not a holiday. Just going to try to get them to get a second dose.

Are you allowed to get the second vaccine where you are? I would agree it's a lot of hassle but here people with Covid still get both vaccines (and probably a booster coming up) so clearly view that as safer and want visitors to do it too (or take the relevant tests etc).

"Even though it does state that the EU digital vaccination certificate is considered proof of vaccination for entering England."

The requirements in UK are that you are double vaccinated plus 2 weeks to avoid restrictions.

So your EU vaccination certificate will not give this information if you have only had one jab. If you have had 2 jabs, the certificate will be recognised.

Our World in Data also does not recognise that those receiving one jab plus proof of Covid illness are fully vaccinated.

Because, put simply, they are not fully vaccinated.

You can’t just get a second dose for travel to the UK.

The country that did a single vaccine considers them fully vaxxed and won’t use a vaccine on a healthy fully vaxxed person just to facilitate a holiday while there are still not enough vaccines for the global population. You’re better off lobbying your MP to accept the EU definition of fully vaxxed as fully vaxxed. It would be good if they could come to an agreement whereby UK single vaxxed teens were accepted in exchange for EU single vaxxed adults, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

An alternative would be to get to the us, quarantine and go to a walk in centre for the vaccine there?

The Eu vaccine passport shows the last of the doses, the name of the vaccine and says 2/2 or 1/1. The uk only accepts 1/1 if the vaccine is Jannsen.

PersephoneJames · 15/10/2021 08:15

To the uk not the us!

And it’s not an EU definition, it’s the individual countries’. Sorry, I really ought to preview before posting Blush

Well, in the case of my relative, they were told they can get a second whenever they like.

They're not fully vaccinated for UK purposes. But their pass says fully vaccinated.. That was my point. As in their country, they are fully vaccinated.

So whoever checks it will see that it says 1/1 fully vaccinated. But we require 2/2 in the UK. But that doesn't make them not fully vaccinated. They just aren't for UK purposes.

Lucky them - case closed then surely? Sadly not the case for my family in Spain and France.
