Negative pcr for travel after Covid

My DD (16) finishes his isolation for Covid at midnight Sunday and needs a negative pcr test on Monday before we be allowed go on holiday on Wednesday (already delayed from original date of Saturday). He's had one vaccine but unfortunately where we are going doesn't see that as fully vaccinated like the UK do for under 18s.
Does anyone have any experience of testing negative so soon after. He's been positive since Last Thursday with very very mild symptoms.

I think I'm clutching at straws but .....

You can test positive for up to 90 days after on a PCR. Maybe slightly less likely on an LFT

Abraxan · 14/10/2021 19:29

Most people won't test positive, though you can do.

DD's friend travelled home from Spain in the summer 12 days post a positive PCR. She tested negative on a pcr on day 11.

Thanks @Abraxan that gives me some hope. I had heard 90 days as a possibility but surely that can't be normal

I hate to say it but we are in similar situation

The thing that put me off travelling was that if they test positive again they have to self isolate again

Yes the council test and trace guy said the mandatory isolation would kick in again with each positive pcr.

cmcc22 · 14/10/2021 21:05

I wasn't aware if that. So even if you have done your isolation and it's a Boots pcr for travel rather than an nhs test - he would still go straight back to the beginning again. That seems ridiculous 😱

My DD tested positive early Sep on a NHS PCR and has just tested negative on a pre travel PCR... phew as we fly on Saturday ..

I asked random and they confirmed they notify test and trace and they ignore past tests and ask you to isolate again. Sorry

@sleepwouldbenice thanks. Not sure my DS will cope with being told he can't go on holiday and has to isolate again. May have to reconsider whether we try

I had Covid in mid August and was testing negative by the end of September. Day after isolation ends though is very risky.

cmcc22 · 14/10/2021 21:47

DH just reminded me we need a negative pcr to claim insurance so will have to go ahead with it. Hopefully will be able to explain to test & trace.

Hello, could I just ask if you managed to get a negative PCR for your son please? If so, how many days after his infection was it please? Just trying to maintain hope for our family holiday whilst balancing it with being realistic. It's not easy! Thank you
