Tested positive for the second time

Can anyone else who has had 2 positive tests far enough apart to be considered a reinfection tell me if test and trace do anything about it?

I’m curious as to whether anyone is looking into reinfection or if they do any extra testing or anything.

There doesn’t seem to be much information about it around really and I don’t know of anyone else who’s had it twice and actually had a positive test both times rather than the first time being before testing was available.

I am double vaccinated and had the second dose months ago so thought I should be pretty safe. My symptoms are very similar to last time so I do think it really is covid and not a false positive.

Yes, you do have to isolate - my friend's daughter has had it twice (both very mild).

How far apart were the tests?

RonaCoaster · 14/10/2021 13:15

Yes of course I have to isolate- I have tested positive! I meant more that since they do ask whether you’ve had covid before whether that means they do anything different as a result like extra testing to confirm it.

Last time I tested positive was over a year ago with multiple negative tests in between so I am fairly confident it’s a new infection.

No they don’t do extra testing to confirm it, a positive PCR is sufficient.
I know a few people who have tested positive twice, more than 6 months apart.

Mindymomo · 14/10/2021 13:19

Yes, it will be recorded somewhere on records where people have had covid twice.

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/10/2021 13:28

Oh I see - sorry!

It is recorded, I've seen graphs - it's pretty rare but definitely becoming more common.

Last time I booked a PCR is asked if I wanted to be part of their antibody study as well, so I guess it's being looked into.

Bobholll · 14/10/2021 13:40

It asked when you booked your PCR if you’d had covid previously.

I’ve got it for the second time. I’m double vaxxed. One of the parents at my DD’s school has it for the 3rd time 😱 Last November, April & now. She’s doubled vaxxed.

I’ve got an antibody test to do.. did you choose to do one? I keep putting it off as I don’t want to prick my finger 😂🙈

RonaCoaster · 14/10/2021 13:52

3rd time! Wow that is unlucky. Yeah I ticked the box saying yes to the antibody testing. I suppose it’s going to be more common now as there are more people around who had it long enough ago for the immunity to be less.

I heard only recently that if you have been fully vaccinated you don't need to isolate, if I can find the actual official info on this I will post here. I heard it because I just had Covid in the last few weeks. And once I did the PCR test, then I was known on the system, and test and trace called me and said I needed to isolate for ten days from taking the test.
kimlo · 14/10/2021 14:40

@Redruby2020 you don't need to isolate as a close contact but a pcr is recomended. You still have to isolate if you have symptoms and are waiting for a pcr result or test positive.

ilovebagpuss · 14/10/2021 18:18

I’ve had it 3 times no one is interested with regards extra testing or anything. Hope you feel better soon

have people who had covid twice had milder symptoms the second time?
