Household transmission- how long did it take?

If you caught Covid from a household member how long did it take for you to catch it and test positive?

I’m person A is contagious for 10 days after symptoms/their positive test then can another household member potentially contract it on any of those 10 days? Of if they don’t catch it in the first few days are they unlikely to?

It then takes around 5-7 days from contracting to showing and so does it need to be 17 days from person A’s result to really be clear?

Dd first infected, dh 3 days after, me a week after dd. Anyone can catch it within those 10 days and possibly longer if more household members become infected

I tested positive a few days ago. So should my household members refrain from seeing anyone vulnerable for 17 days from my test result since I could infect them on day 10 of isolation and they could then take 7 days to show positive?

DD1 first. 7 days later I had symptoms and a positive PCR later that week. DD2 and DH didn't catch it. We are all back to normal now.

I personally would refrain just to be on the safe side op especially vulnerable people

Watching with interest: DD tested Sunday, positive result Monday. DH tested Tuesday, positive result Wednesday. Both started with a noticeable fever, which prompted the PCR test.

I'm still feeling fine and today's LFT was a clear negative.

Not doing a PCR yet as there is still plenty of time for me to become infectious; am isolating with them anyway and WFH so will do PCR as a close contact at some point in the next few days if I don't develop symptoms or get a positive LFT (doing them daily).

Wondering how long I should leave it, though, assuming I stay asymptomatic and negative on LFT, to go for the PCR. Maybe last day of DH's isolation. Presumably if I test negative after their self-isolation periods have ended then I will have escaped it? Or maybe I should give it a few days after that?

So hard to predict it all. Work thankfully have told me to stay the fuck away and WFH until there is no chance I'm carrying COVID. So need to make sure I don't inadvertently take it to work with me in a week or two!

Everyone else in my house tested positive on Sunday. I feel fine and I'm doing daily lateral flows, but I don't know whether it's just a matter of time. And, if so, how much time?!

Paddingtonthebear · 14/10/2021 16:28

Husband: symptoms started on Sunday, positive lateral flow on Sunday, positive pcr on Monday

Me: negative lateral flow on Sunday, negative pcr on Tuesday, negative lateral flow on Wednesday, symptoms overnight last night, positive lateral flow this morning

DC: no symptoms so far, negative lateral flow Sunday, negative pcr on Monday, negative lateral flow on Wednesday, negative lateral flow this morning (and went to school as school insisted). Will do lateral flow on them again in the morning and another PCR before the weekend

All 3 of us positive 6 days after dd1

Lollipop444 · 14/10/2021 16:38

We had ds test positive, then 5 days later (7 days post ds symptoms) dh tested positive.

Me and the older dcs didn’t get it at all which was incredible really considering none of us has knowingly had it before and we had been in very close contact.

bowlingalleyblues · 14/10/2021 16:38

I’ve just googled a few studies. It looks like the average incubation period is 4-6 days, but may be quicker with Delta (so more cases on day 1/2/3 after exposure). The incubation period can be up to 14 days. So someone could develop symptoms even after the 10 days, but over 90% of cases would have developed symptoms/tested positive before day 10 (seen figures from 95-97%).

Fashionesta · 14/10/2021 16:48

I was positive 8 days after DD.

Bugbeau · 14/10/2021 16:50

My husband developed symptoms on Thursday and got a positive test on the Saturday. I then got symptoms on Tuesday and a positive result the following Thursday so was less than a week for us.

It's not inevitable that everyone/anyone else will catch it. My daughter (14) had it a couple of weeks ago and both me and her dad avoided it (double jabbed). We did not isolate her but did try and ventilate the rooms as much as possible.
