Do we need to test?

For the last week me and DH had a slight cold. We were at a wedding the week before and just thought we picked it up from there funny nose, tired etc etc. DS who is 1 has started with bright green diahorrea and off his food and now DD 7 has woke up with a raging temperature and being sick. I'm starting to think so we need to test? I also now feel like I have an itchy throat and DH said his chest is quite tight. Now usually if these were all separate I wouldn't think anything but reading online how many different symptoms there can be do you think I should book a test? It is apparently rife in DD school with 6 cases in just the last week and I know quite a few mums are off with it but we are now still to send children without symptoms in. Not sure what to do.

Yes. Test. Not sure why you are doubting it!

Pinkchocolate · 13/10/2021 07:20

I don’t know why you’d question it either. Just do the test.

Raging temp - get a test!!
Everyone in your house has symptoms!

fitsandgiggles · 13/10/2021 07:23

Ok for context. No one expect my DD has a temp which has started this morning! There has been a cold going around which I suspected me and DH had last week and my DS has diahorrea and off his food which at 1 is a symptom of teething. It is only this morning with the temp I am think we need a test and just wanted some advice. No need to be patronising

You should have booked tests a week ago as a precautionary measure. What a perfect example of how covid spreads.

If I booked a test every time I had a runny nose I'd never be out of the test centre. Wr lateral flow regularly but light cold symptoms are not one of the 3 main symptoms temp/cough/loss of taste and smell which are what require you to test?

Yes, the temperature is certainly the tipping point. Could well be a couple of different bugs, but you need to know either way.

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 13/10/2021 07:30

Book a test for you all.

I’ve just had a positive result and my only symptom is a runny nose and sneezing a lot. Feels like a bad cold and I don’t have any of the 3 main covid symptoms.

fitsandgiggles · 13/10/2021 07:35

Test booked for all 4 of us. DH on way home from work now, in hindsight maybe I should of acted quicker but as I say I thought we just had a cold that everyone keeps saying is 'doing the rounds' and a teething baby. Fingers crossed it is negative and thank you for the advice I will let you all know how we get on!

Book a test to be on the safe side.

Although there are other cold/flu bugs around as well as Covid. And people need to remember that.

RosesAndHellebores · 13/10/2021 07:54

The three main symptoms have been debunked by Tim Spektor who runs the Zoe App and has provided the most sensible advice throughout.

Glad to hear you have regularly been taking lateral flow tests and they are negative.

We are in the middle of covid......
DH had a cold 6 weeks ago. Neg lfts neg pcr.

DS kindly brings covid home. DH has similar symptoms but with upset stomach and no fever. Covid positive.

Both started out as runny nose, headache and tired.

ChuckMater · 13/10/2021 10:53

Dd having a temperature alone is enough reason to test.

pommedeterre · 13/10/2021 11:45

At the very least your dd is symptomatic so needs a test (and then you are close contacts so might as well get tested with her even if we ignore your other issues).

ProfSprout · 13/10/2021 11:51

The temperature is the only reason you should bf testing.

Honestly it’s impossible. DD had a cold/cough 2 weeks ago, negative pcr, negative lateral flows.

She was finally better this week and needed a pcr as a close contact from school…she’s flipping tested positive. But she’s completely fine, and I doubt it’s linked to the cold as she had negative tests when that was at its worst.

I would never have thought to test if it wasn’t the close contact thing, she was in school when I got the result as she was so fine & no way was I expecting a positive.

And if I wanted, I could still send dd2 to school even though they share a bedroom.

It’s impossible to know what to do for the best - all we can really do is follow the guidelines as given which it sounds like you are doing.

Hope you all feel better soon.

Thanks for all the comments!

Received our results today! All negative except...DS who is the one who had no covid symptoms and just funny poos last week & a bit off his food. The rest of us are negative x

I suspect positive tests for the rest of you will follow soon... hope you all get well soon!
