I’ve got Covid AGAIN and it’s worse than 2020

I’ve had one Pfizer jab and thought I’d have good antibodies from when I was (mildly) unwell in 2020 but I’m actually really ill. DH is the same as me (one Pfizer) and was really quite ill in 2020 and is equally unwell now. DS (aged 15) is unwell but not as unwell as he was in 2020 (he was extremely unwell and nearly hospitalised due to his non stop fever) and my other DS who is now 12 has been mildly ill but had zero symptoms in 2020.
So basically, only my teen who was very ill last time has got it more mildly. It seems pretty disappointing that the vaccines and the prior antibodies haven’t helped. I really believed that they would.

@Aposterhasnoname

Well there you go then. Proof you need two vaccinations.
I don't understand your thinking. They had it last year with no vaccines and felt better than they do now after already having covid b4 and 1 jab. So if its prove 2 vaccines are needed why were they not worse with it last year 🤔
sleepwouldbenice · 12/10/2021 13:16

@roses2

It's awful antibodies don't last and the potential of getting sick like this every 12-18 months is really depressing :(

Ignore the previous posted who talks about being double jabbed. This is irrelevant if the antibodies don't last past 6 months which is now well publicised in the press.

Don't last? Do you mean reduce?
Megistotherium · 12/10/2021 13:17

Different variant?

roses2 · 12/10/2021 13:50

Don't last? Do you mean reduce?

Nope - I mean there's a high likelihood antibodies disappear completely just like the flu:

snazzynamechangetiming · 12/10/2021 13:58

It's so disappointing to be jabbed and catch it. We are the same, all recovering from Covid, but the fact that you're also had it before is even more disappointing. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a new variant around.

Actually it says around half

Also the sample was 46

And it also says "Neutralizing antibodies are not the immune system’s only defense against the virus"

Lets just bin the vaccines hey, Jesus

Mistlewoeandwhine · 12/10/2021 14:51

We delayed having a second vaccine as I was scared of the side effects and I thought if we each had one Pfizer plus antibodies, it’d be enough. It was considered to be enough in other countries. Obviously we were wrong about that.
My post was really about the disappointment of having had Covid in 2020 very mildly then worse in 2021. The only one of us who has had it less badly is my teen who had it very badly in 2020. Maybe he made better antibodies due to being so unwell? I don’t know. It just sucks. That’s all.

Thanks for all the good wishes by the way. I need them!

Delta seems to be much worse than the original. Plus your antibodies from 2020 infection have probably disappeared.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 12/10/2021 16:30

Yes, I’d say we had zero antibodies l plus my teenager’s symptoms were identical to mine despite me having one vaccine about 8/9 weeks ago.
And to the people saying it’s a cold - it’s not. Definitely more like flu for all of us and also nausea, terrible sweats, headaches as well as a cough and a temperature. And yes we have all done PCRs.

Bobholll · 12/10/2021 17:31

It’s not nice for some people OP. I’m doubled vaxxed & I had mild covid last December. I’ve currently got it now.

But I don’t really care. Yeh, I feel pretty ill, it’s not very pleasant. But nothing of concern, I’m just bunkering down until I feel better. Taking some time off sick. Sleeping. Resting. It’s not the end of the world. I’m certainly not disappointed/angry/annoyed. And it’s far better now my negative kids can continue to go to school 🙌🏼😂

snazzynamechangetiming · 12/10/2021 17:49

@Bobholll some people like myself don't get sick pay as I run my own business and I hate spending 10+ days in the house. Well actually it will be 2 weeks by the time by toddler is allowed out and I can have Grandparents back to watch her when I'm out 😣 Plus it's really unpleasant.

Keepgoing88 · 12/10/2021 18:00

I know this has be asked a lot but have you actually had it for e.g. have you had a positive test in 2020? I know a lot of people who think they have had it twice but I don’t know anyone who has actually tested positive twice. My children have all had Covid symptoms many times and have only tested positive once

Hmumoftw0 · 12/10/2021 18:03

My brother had covid 2020 mild symptoms double jabbed and ended up on a ventilator in August with covid again Sad

Mistlewoeandwhine · 12/10/2021 18:44

Yes definitely all had it twice.

OP posts:
Mistlewoeandwhine · 12/10/2021 18:46

Yes I’m self employed so no sick pay for me.

Sorry to hear about your brother. I hope he is getting better.

I think there's just so many variables, different variant, time of year, state of your immune system. I had it really bad in 2020, still not fully recovered, dp had it mildly but got reinfected between dose 1 + 2 of Pfizer. I didn't catch it again. Once you can, make sure you get the 2nd dose it will hopefully help for next time.

EileenGC · 12/10/2021 18:59

When exactly in 2020 did you have Covid?

In my country (EU) they’re doing the one dose for recovered people, but only if you had it less than 6 months ago.

If you had Covid more than 6 months ago, it’s two doses or you won’t be as covered. All the doctors here say this.

It isn’t irrelevant. The second dose is to boost the first one and results in a much higher antibody response. It’s also not true that antibodies don’t last past 6 months. They do start to decline but you still have some, and you also have the T-cell immunity.
foxgoosefinch · 12/10/2021 19:19

Statistically much more likely to have symptomatic disease after only one vaccination, but this is also a slightly different variant, too. However, even if you get it it’s still much less likely that you’ll end up with severe disease - most probably because some vaccine exposure reduces the chance of Covid pneumonia and the immune system overreactions that cause Covid to turn into severe disease requiring hospitalisation.

The data is showing that you have a dramatically reduced chance of hospitalisation after 2 vaccine doses even if you still have it.

New stats coming out of Israel are suggesting that three vaccine doses (2 + booster) could well be the magic bullet. The jury’s still out on that data though, but fingers crossed!

StrongLegs · 12/10/2021 19:37

I'm really sorry you're having a hard time. I had a bad time with alpha covid in 2020, then an absolutely horrendous time with vaccine side effects, and then delta covid in 2021. I'm grinding along trying to recover now and really so confused about whether to attempt vaccine 2 once I'm back on my feet.

It can be really hard to grind through such a hard illness, and I do think that being run down from doing it last year makes it harder to do it again.

Take care there, and please do know that you are not alone.

@IndigoC

This study found that hospitalisation was twice as likely on reinfection:

www.clinicalmicrobiologyandinfection.com/article/S1198-743X(21)00422-5/fulltext

So this idea that the second time you catch it will inevitably be milder seems to be off base.

Some types of food positioning lead to a stronger and stronger reaction each time. For some people, sufficient exposures lead to an autoimmune disease.
