Second vaccine for eligible 12-15s

Just wondering if any eligible children in this age group have been invited for their 2nd jab yet? I phoned my GP today and they were super unhelpful, couldn’t tell me when the next clinic would be. I am wondering if it’s possible to get the second jab as part of the school vaccinations. Has anyone tried this?

Which 12-15’s are eligible for 2 jabs? I thought they were only being offered 1.

Pohtaytoes · 11/10/2021 16:05

Mine has only just had his first. Our GP said we would get a letter calling us for the second. It seems to have been really slow in my area for the GPs to get this organised.

Children with some forms of SEN and immune compromised are being offered two.
JanglyBeads · 11/10/2021 16:08

If they and all household members are not CEV, there are no plans as yet to give 12-15 yos a second dose.

This may change of course.

Schulte · 11/10/2021 18:46

As per NHS guidance, some children in this age group are meant to have two jabs, for example if they live with someone who is immunosuppressed. Most of those eligible would have had their first jabs several weeks ago. So sounds like not much progress on second jabs yet.

nothing here 3 weeks post first jab. But I've still not been called for my third

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 11/10/2021 19:33

Dd should be due hers in a couple of weeks but we haven't heard anything. Like you I'm wondering if we can get it done at school if the timing works.

Lindy2 · 11/10/2021 19:36

We're still waiting for the first one here.

I'm getting very frustrated that we're not allowed to arrange it ourselves at a vaccine centre. The only option seems to be to wait for the schools to arrange it but we've not even been given any dates at all yet.

Boofay · 11/10/2021 19:52

My eligible 16 year old had her first dose on the 1st august and recently had her second dose on the 29th September. So about 8 1/2 weeks between doses. I know she's outside the 12-15 category but might give you an idea.

Our 12 yr old was booked in for the second at the same time the booking was made for the first.

Is your child in a special category? Because as I understand it at the moment there are NO PLANS to give a second shot to the 12-15 year olds which I find incredibly frustrating (it means that children can’t travel to many places in Europe and in the uS which are vaccinating 12-15 year olds as every other country doing it does it properly ie with two jabs. In their eyes, with one jab, the kids are not properly vaccinated and have to quarantine on arrival)
Pohtaytoes · 11/10/2021 21:17

Yes @lateforschool as explained in other posts this is for children with certain conditions, or who live with people with very compromised immune systems.

Boofay · 11/10/2021 21:19

RTFT @lateforschool.

dreamingofbeaches2022 · 11/10/2021 23:25

My 14 year old has their second booked in, exactly 8 weeks after the first. There was a bit of confusion as the nurse said they’d only have one and wouldn’t book the second but I sorted it in the end. Vaccination clinic is at a big hospital- was put on the list to go there by our GP.

Angel2702 · 12/10/2021 06:58

Ours is arranged via a text from GP with a link to book the same way the carers and other people not eligible to book via the main booking system. I am assuming that it will the same as the Carer’s vaccine and we will receive the second text to book a few days before the second vaccine is due.

I wouldn’t bother trying to do it via school, if our area is anything to go by they cannot manage it at all. It’s a lottery as to whether those who consent to the vaccine actually get it.

Sockwomble · 12/10/2021 08:32

Ds doesn't get his first until the end of the month. There has been no mention of vaccinating in school. I don't expect he will get his 2nd until the new year. There seems to be a vaccine supply issue in my area because very few booster invitations are going out.

Revengeofthepangolins · 12/10/2021 10:18

My (special category) 15 year old (well, he was when it was done) has been called back at exactly 8 weeks by the special clinic which did him originally, on a half term weekend. If he was unable to go to this, I suspect it could be hard to get him done.

Schulte · 13/10/2021 06:51

Thanks all. Looks like the rollout is a bit patchy to say the least!

FabricedeSauveterre · 13/10/2021 07:21

Shitshow of vaccinations at school yesterday and they only managed to do about 60 per cent of the children with consent they’d been expecting to do so I wouldn’t rely on that.

hells456 · 13/10/2021 21:31

The vaccine clinic at the hospital rang me and booked both jabs for my 13 year old at the same time.

Schulte · 14/10/2021 09:09

Looks like every clinic and GP practice has its very own approach. I wish it was all better organised.
