Covid school

Ds 11 has 2 weeks left in school before they finish for half term.

If we get through this week covid free . I’m really tempted to keep him off that last week as we’re going away the following week .

We had to move it from august as Dd 15 got it 2 days before we were due to go . Its really moving fast now through the school .
They are wearing masks now and on one hand I’m thinking if he gets it well at least he will have some immunity but he was devastated when we had to cancel in August.

I would be tempted too and don’t suppose you would be the only ones considering doing this.

If he catches it this week he may still be ill in 2 weeks time
It took about 3 weeks for me to feel normal after covid and I didn't even get it bad
Also if you have not had it you may catch it days after your DS shows symptoms which would make you have to cancel your plans also

Don’t know it they would issue us a fine ?? It’s £60 each I think . Work is being set for kids who are isolating, so would make him do that.
I know his education is important and have never took them out before for holidays but we all need this break and he’s really looking forward to it . Dd is fine to stay in as she only had it in August.

No both me and husband haven’t had it yet only Dd . Have done 2 tests on him over weekend as 3 pupils who he’s close with , but not in many classes together have had positive pcr s come back .
Will have to see how this week goes and then have a think .

Are you going abroad? Most kids aren’t even ill with covid so no test no covid

If going abroad then take him out last week - I did it with dds and they did virtual learning as we were going spain

If UK tho I’d just not test tbh no one else it testing asymptomatically

If the threads at the time were to be believed just about everyone did this at the end of the summer term in July.

I'm not sure what you are asking though, is it about being fined? I don't think anyone will be abel to tell you if that will happen as there's no universal policy.

Sallydimebar · 10/10/2021 23:30

Not going abroad just to the lakes. I know no-one can give me an answer really . We could do without the fine also not 100% sure if that’s when absence goes over 5 days
They would tell me it would go down as unauthorized I’m sure, but they break up on the Thursday so would be four days, then we go on the Friday . Il see how he goes this week then make a decision next weekend . It’s not something I like doing as he’s missed so much school already but four days working online won’t be a massive blow i don’t think .
He can have his jab in December and no plans to go away again til next summer .

Re the fine - I suspect it depends on the school and how long he is off etc. But at my two’s school they have said to parents who have covid and can’t get the kids to school they will be fined ( not sure if it’s actually happened yet)!

Seems strange to take a child out to avoid catching something, rather than to simply avoid testing in the final week.

As some others have said, it’s the case that he’s unlikely to be I’ll anyway, but if he does get sick, then 4 days isn’t sufficient to see anything more than a sniffle out.

I do understand being disinclined to see a positive test causing him to have to isolate. It would be quite annoying. So if that’s your reasoning, then I have more sympathy.
