Can I take my kids to school?

Does anyone know what the rules regarding taking children to school when I have covid are? Can I do this?

Long story short, son tested positive last weekend and is out of isolation on Thursday but now my husband and I have tested positive and are in isolation till the 19th.

So I know son can go back to school but can we technically take him there if we obviously don’t get out of the car etc? Thank you

Then you will get parents who don’t have cars saying they have a legal requirement to get kids to school. So they have no option but to take them on public transport . It needs to be a blanket No. As track and trace tell people.

Bobholll · 12/10/2021 17:39

Well, they can fine me all they want. I’ve been taking my kid to school so far this week 😂 You can get fined by school for non attendance 🤯🙄

I’m not going to break down or crash my car driving 2 minutes down the road. And if I did, I’d get out, walk home & get a negative family member to go sort my car. The walk from school to home is less distance than the walk from home to the priority post box I’m allowed to walk too to post PCR’s & antibody tests back 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bobholll · 12/10/2021 17:41

*to add, I’ve been staying in my car & a teacher is collecting them. School have been adement my child must attend this week.

JoeMaplin · 12/10/2021 18:42

@Fallagain

Unless you are isolating from your children within the home then they shouldn’t be going to school anyway.
That is not correct. Household members do not need to isolate.

If the negative family member can sort the car out why can’t they take the child to school?

Presumably you read the post before posting this. Why should she inconvenience them twice each day? She's clearly posing no risk! The zealotry of some people to obey pointless rules for the sake of it is disturbing...

ItsAllRealtive · 12/10/2021 21:28

So if a covid positive person crashes their car on the school run she poses no risk to the people who have to deal with that?

Watapalava · 12/10/2021 21:32

God stop being dramatic

Almost everyone has been double vax
Those who refused tough shit

Those still at risk will always be at risk

Stop being alarmist! In few months time we won’t even be testing for this shit - most people aren’t even testing anymore

Warhertisuff · 12/10/2021 21:46

We live in a country where 1 in 60 people have Covid.... Compare that to the chances of having a serious accident requiring masked and vaccinated paramedics to tend to your injured body on a short trip to school is something like 1 in 10,000,000... That's literally about the risk of you dying next year from your night clothes catching fire (I'm not kidding).

If you want to protect yourself against that kind of risk, then I suggest you.... actually there's literally nothing I can suggest that can take away that kind of risk in your life.

DrCoconut · 12/10/2021 22:30

It's all an academic point for us now as DS2 also has covid so we have everyone in the house infected.

Porcupineintherough · 12/10/2021 22:39

You don't have to crash your car to get the paramedics to come out to you when you are covid positive @ItsAllRealtive. They are the ones acting in place of gps and assessing people to see if they need to be hospitalised.

ItsAllRealtive · 13/10/2021 07:01

So you’re basically saying you don’t agree with self isolation? You don’t see the fact that the NHS are spending so much time dealing with covid they have no chance of trying to work through the backlog of other work that built up last year? WOW

Porcupineintherough · 13/10/2021 07:46

No, Im saying that if you allow children with COVID positive parents to attend school, the risk of COVID spreading is not in the car journey.

ItsAllRealtive · 13/10/2021 13:11

So you think everybody in the household should isolate.

Porcupineintherough · 13/10/2021 13:15

Yes if I were the government that's what I'd make the rule but Im not and it isnt. And as it isnt, I can't get very excited about the minuscule additional risk of transmission posed by the OP driving a child to school.

ItsAllRealtive · 13/10/2021 13:26

So because you don’t agree with the law it is ok to break it, which I guess the OP must agree with otherwise she wouldn’t posted here.

Bobholll · 13/10/2021 13:33

@ItsAllRealtive - explain what I should do then please? Get a fine from the council for not sending my child to school? Inconvenience my relatives twice a day for 10 days? Orrrr should I actually just quickly run my child to school with a one in a million chance of a serious accident requiring any contact with anyone. Even a minor bump or scrape, I would simply wind down my window, ask them to stand back & explain I have covid. I’d then get their phone number & sort it via a phone call. If I break down, my partner can come collect me in our other car & we can leave the broken down car at school for 48 hours to ensure the ‘safety’ of the mechanic. In my 4 years of school runs so far, I’ve managed not to crash it or break down.

I’m self isolating just fine. My non poorly kids at school progressing with her education as she should be.

I bet your a real hoot at parties. People are being ridiculous 😂 Me taking my child to school is not a risk. Her being in school with a positive parent at home probably is. But I didn’t make the rules! And she deserves her education to be fair, she’s not ill.

Nidan2Sandan · 13/10/2021 13:38

I'd take mine, you're not coming into contact with anyone so still isolating.

Our school says any child who is negative & doesnt attend school will be marked as unauthorised absence irrelevant if parents are home with covid. Saying it's our responsibility to make arrangements, fine, if you have that support around you. But what about those that dont? Angry

Porcupineintherough · 13/10/2021 13:44

@ItsAllRealtive it's also the law that children go to school. So, two laws that dont mesh perfectly. OP is just trying to muddle through like the rest of us.

No it isn’t. It’s the law that children receive an education. Otherwise nobody could home educate. Hmm

Porcupineintherough · 13/10/2021 19:08

@NavigatingAdolescence so your suggestion is the OP deregisters her child from school to cover the 10 days she is self isolating with COVID ? Ok then Hmm

megletthesecond · 13/10/2021 19:15

I would. Or I'd walk them in. Outdoor transmission is unlikely. (And I'm someone who still isn't back at the gym or restaurants).

NavigatingAdolescence · 13/10/2021 19:44

No. But your general statement regarding it being law was incorrect. So……. 🤷🏻‍♀️
