Positive at 45 minutes lft. What should I do?

I test twice a week for university and I did my test as normal this morning. I looked at twenty minutes and it looked negative so didn't think about it, however when I went to bin it at 45 minutes there is quite a defined pink line Confused. Not sure what to do as second was negative. Pcr/self isolate? Any chance it's just a evap line do you think?

Just re do it surely?

FluffyTeddyBear · 10/10/2021 10:08

Oh you did!

I’d ignore it then.

Whinge · 10/10/2021 10:14

I've never had one that has shown a line, no matter how long i've left it. Had you eaten or drank anything before the first test, and how are you feeling?

MumbleCrumbs · 10/10/2021 10:20

Yesterday and this morning I have horrible leg pain (also have issues with my leg and usually get pains when I'm getting sick) but that's it. However youngest DD started with a cough yesterday and was identified as a close contact at school.
Second test is completely negative though, not even a hint of a line. First line is very pronounced though.

I would book a pcr to be sure lateral flows can be unreliable

Assuming your DD has been for a PCR, I would continue to isolate with her and keep an eye on how you're feeling. If she's been in contact with a confirmed case and now has a cough it's likely she's positive, and it's possible you could be too.

We're waiting for home delivery of pcrs as we don't drive but as I go to uni with two girls who are quite vulnerable I don't think I'll risk it and book a pcr as well.

I’ve had this. DD is positive.
I’ve had 1 LFT that had a faint line after 30 mins but nothing before. Second LFT negative (not a hint after hours and hours). Waiting on a PCR result for good measure. I’m double jabbed and no symptoms so not isolating (although in practice have only left house to look after horse) . The LFT instructions do say to ignore anything after 30 mins.
I’d do a PCR personally. Although I’ve been waiting bloody days for my result!

LadyPenelope68 · 10/10/2021 11:02

I’ve been doing LFT’s all throughout the pandemic 3 times a week because of my job abs I’ve never had a line after the 30 mins, so don’t think you get an evaporation line. I’d definitely do a PCR as even though your second LFT was negative, they’re notoriously unreliable.

MumbleCrumbs · 10/10/2021 11:24

Just for context this is the test, does it look like an evap?

Mine looked like that on Friday & yesterday. Got positive PCR last night

catzfur · 10/10/2021 11:31

You are doing the right thing by getting a PCR - I would take that LFT as a positive even though it’s after 30 mins.

LadyPenelope68 · 10/10/2021 11:33

That looks a positive to me, my sons was a feint line like that. From what we were told at work, you don’t get evaporation lines.

WitchSerafina · 10/10/2021 11:33

My DD was a close contact of a friend at school, had the faint line like that on Tuesday evening, which we interpreted as positive. (Was also only visible after about 45 minutes). Next day’s LFT was strongly positive and she tested positive on PCR. So I would say in my experience, it’s more likely to be an indication that you have it, but that the viral load is still low.

Whinge · 10/10/2021 11:34

Same here. Especially as your daughter has symptoms and has been around a confirmed case.

None of my negative tests have ever changed even hours or days after taking them. So I would think a line showing just 15 minutes outside the 30 minute time limit, is more likely to be a positive rather than evap.

Quarantino · 10/10/2021 11:35

I'd take that as a positive op. It's a pain you have to wait for postal PCRs but you're doing the right thing. Good luck.

MumbleCrumbs · 10/10/2021 11:47

Uh oh. I'm cev but currently feel fine other than achey legs. Maybe it's just a bad test?I'm just going to let myself be in sweet denial until the pcr is done.

I’d assume that was positive, my sons did the same on Friday - the faintest line after the time and his PCR was positive yesterday.

If I do test positive when am I out of the "danger zone" symptoms wise, because I feel ok just now?
