Vaccination for 13 year old

Ds has1 dose I September, and got an appointment for his second in November.

Everything I read tells me that 12 to 15 year olds only get one dose.

I spoke to the surgery, who told me that as far as they know, all teenagers are having 2 doses, just like adults.

What's going on? Will he come to any harm having 2? Should I cancel the second appointment?
I don't know why the surgery say they all have 2 when the media is v v clear that they are only approved for 1 dose?

I don't know what to do.

They need to be in certain groups to get 2 e.g. if they are clinically vulnerable or live with someone who is

Nope, he isn't.

Well, he has ehcp and attends a special school, but no issues that would make him more susceptible to infections.

Does he have a learning disability or autism? Most children in special schools will be eligible for 2 vaccines.

Are you in Scotland? My dd (who admittedly is 16, not 13) was given a 2nd appointment in error. I had no idea it might be an error until I read something on here about a 16 year old being turned away. A letter came through this morning letting us know about the mistake and saying not to go to the 2nd appointment. I also have a 14 year old dc and no word of 2nd appointment for them so I wouldn't unless your child is vulnerable.

In England..He does have autism, perhaps thats why.

Autism counts as vulnerable, my dd is older and was offered it as group 6 in March.

Well, he was never told to sheild or anything. As a child with an ehcp, and both parents are key workers, he went to school all the way through.

So it's odd that he is a priority now, but now I understand its not a mistake and it won't harm him, I'm happy to go ahead.

The advice to include people with autism in the vulnerable category was only made in September after reviewing data on those who suffered more with covid and they were added to the vaccine list before the vaccine was approved for over 12. Those on the vulnerable list will receive 2 vaccines arranged via GP. All other over 12 children will be vaccinated with one dose at school.

@Angel2702 thank you, that explanation makes perfect sense.
