Anyone know what happens when NHS don't finish vaccinations at schools?

DC was meant to be vaccinated at senior school last week but they didn't get round to many of the DC.

There is no word about them being finished and the DC were told they were not coming back.

Does anyone know what happens when DC are missed and if there is an alternative way to get them vaccinated?

In my area you can only get them vaxed at school, the GP and walk-in centres are not involved. I enquired as Dd missed hers as she was ill. However, that doesn't mean every NHS Trust is the same. I contacted the school vaccinations team in our area, it was fairly easy information to find. However, the vax team also didn't know what they were going to do to catch up missed vax and were awaiting government guidance and told me to contact back in a week, your situation maybe different as your DC were missed whilst at school though.

We are in the situation. However we had a message from school (before the kids got home) saying they hadn't finished, and would be coming back on a later specified date.
It was originally booked for 1 day, and think they are going to be on 5 days before it is all done - they have already extended the number of days once.......

They should have a 'mop up' programme although it may be much later in the season. GP's are not contracted to do it, that's national guidance not any surgery being awkward (unless they have an underlying health condition which qualifies them).

In our area the current plan is there isnt a plan.

I am skeptical op if vaccinating teens was a genuine offer or window dressing announced weeks ago.
Ours school still has no date
Sirona health delayed primary flu to focus on secondary covid yet hardly any schools done as they short staffed and they also have do 3rd boosters.
I wonder if supply issue?

In England

Gps won't do it they say school even though 15year old year 11 has ashma and is invited to have flu
You can't go vaccination centres.
Not seen a mop up plan kids ill that day, changed mind or had covid so can't get jab the 1 ir 2 days they offering it.
Kids can only get 1 jab leaves them in limbo for travel and we told as adults get 2 jabs as 1 only 30% effective so we half arsing and rationing jabs for kids, making it hard and inflexible to access, at mercy of local NHS speed become post code lottery and administering far too late to avoid covid and disruption as over 100k off and 1 in 14 year 7 to year 11 had covid last week so couldn't have jab then.

We are in a similar situation (DS off sick).

School vaccination team said to call our GP who said to call the school vaccination team. Popped into a walk in centre, but they can’t jab them either.

Their flu and HPV vaccinations were postponed to make way for the Covid jabs, so hopefully they’ll have some sort of mop up programme in place by the time they return to schools in December with the flu vaccines.

We are still waiting for a date for the actual first attempt; we were originally given 1 day in half term Hmm

ANameChangeAgain · 09/10/2021 08:00

My DS is in this position, but the vax team are coming coming back next week. It'll be their 3rd visit to the school as they keep running out.
They wouldn't vax my 16yo year 11, even though the NHS information letter said they would, so we took her to a walk in.

GrammarTeacher · 09/10/2021 08:06

It was a bit of a shambles at our place. They arrived very late. Took a long time to get started. Did less than half the students they should have. We were given hardly any information in advance (other vaccinations are organised more collaboratively). Had no idea when year groups would be called. No idea when they will be back

RockaLock · 09/10/2021 08:36

DS1 was off sick so missed his jab - neither the school nor the immunisation team know when they'll be back to do everyone that was missed. And perhaps more importantly, no one knows when they will do the flu vaccines either.

However I did get texts yesterday from a local(ish) hospital saying they were doing 12-15 covid vaccinations, and that I could book one if my children hadn't had them in school yet. I think it must be because both DS have been seen at various clinics there over the years and so have medical records there.

middleager · 09/10/2021 09:18

Same boat at one of my DC's secondaries. Year 11 were not vaccinated, but the school messaged to say the vaccination team will be returning.

Madcats · 09/10/2021 09:22

DD was supposed to be getting a Covid jab at school last week, but the team cancelled their visit due to "staffing issues". No alternative date has been suggested.

I had a look at our county's coronavirus vaccine data and they've only been doling out 40-70 first jabs a day this month for the whole county. It doesn't look as if a single jab has been administered in a school.
