DD16 really suffering, when do we need to worry/seek medical attention?

Poor DD is a week into Covid (caught within days of her first jab Sad).

The cough is so horrible and her chest is very sore. She struggling to speak more than a few words because it triggers so much coughing. She has a mild fever and her oxygen levels are ok, but her pulse is very high (consistently >100 despite being laid up in bed). I'm not sure when to worry. Should I be speaking to our GP tomorrow?

Personally I would call for advice if she is struggling to speak.

You can't go wrong by seeking medical advice. I hope she's better soon Flowers

Artdecolover · 06/10/2021 19:02

I'd be calling 111 for advice

Bagelsandbrie · 06/10/2021 19:03

I’d ring 111. Struggling to speak short sentences is a marker for needing help. She might need antibiotics or steroids or both.

kimlo · 06/10/2021 19:04

struggling to speak and hr over 100 I would be ringing 111.

What are her oxygen levels?

AlexaShutUp · 06/10/2021 19:04

Oh gosh, OP, I'm sorry - that sounds so worrying. I have a 16yo with covid at the moment, but thankfully her symptoms are mild. I would definitely call for advice. 111 if you're worried tonight and don't want to have to wait for the GP.

I hope she feels better soon. Flowers

MontEthna · 06/10/2021 19:06

I'd call 111 too.

Toasty280 · 06/10/2021 19:06

Call 111

SonnetForSpring · 06/10/2021 19:14

ilovebagpuss · 06/10/2021 19:15

Yes please call for advice not being able to hold a conversation because of breathing/cough she may just need some extra support or medication.

buttermutt · 06/10/2021 19:48

I would call 111

Fallagain · 06/10/2021 20:11

Yy to ringing 111

TolkiensFallow · 06/10/2021 20:14

Definitely call 111 tonight.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 06/10/2021 20:16

I’d be calling your out of hours GP service or whatever you have in your area right now.
Hope she picks up soon x

toolazytothinkofausername · 06/10/2021 20:18

If in doubt, get it checked out. Sooner rather than later.

Sweettea1 · 06/10/2021 20:18

No harm can come from seeking advice ring 111 atleast for advise about high pluse that would worry me.

Cornettoninja · 06/10/2021 20:43

111 definitely.

As a rule of thumb generally I tend to think it’s time to seek help when I start wondering whether I should. I’m not qualified to rule anything out so better someone qualified tell me there’s nothing to worry about rather than me guessing. That’s not a one-time rule either so if you seek advice and continue to be concerned seek more help.

I hope your dd starts feeling better soon Flowers

hollyivysaurus · 06/10/2021 21:02

I agree ring 111, the pulse and struggling to speak would worry me too. I hope she's better soon!

BonneMaman15 · 06/10/2021 21:16

Sounds like she has a secondary infection.

toolazytothinkofausername · 07/10/2021 08:46

How is your daughter this morning?

Ouchiehelpneeded · 07/10/2021 09:40

Thanks everyone, sorry not to come back last night! We didn't get a call back from 111. I've contacted our GP, so hopefully I'll speak to them soon.

She seems a bit better in herself this morning, so I'm less worried than I was. Pulse still high, but not quite as crazy and the cough is less constant and debilitating.

This is such a horrible illness. It's so frustrating that there isn't a consistent path, I hate not knowing what to expect.

Thanks for all your support! Reassuring to know I'm not overreacting! Flowers

Glad that she seems better, OP. Hope that you manage to speak to the GP soon!

shivermetimbers77 · 07/10/2021 09:45

I hope she feels better soon OP, must be so worrying for you all . Glad she is feeling a bit brighter today.

starfish4 · 07/10/2021 10:17

Hopefully, she's on the mend, but it certainly won't do any harm to speak to GP and if you need to keep trying 111.

MontEthna · 07/10/2021 11:28

Where I am we know have a ‘specialist’ clinic for covid. Basically a GP who only sees people with covid and redirect them as needed or appropriate.
A friend of mine went there. There wasn’t a lot they could do BUT they checked her over, assessed her thoroughly and could reassure her/give her some advice
That’s the second time she got it and she really appreciated it.
