Covid worse 2nd time round??

I first had Covid about 12 months ago, I felt really tired and had a bit of a cough but was mostly ok.

I tested positive again yesterday and I can’t remember ever feeling so ill!
I don’t have any of the three main symptoms but I feel really spaced and dizzy, my whole body hurts and my chest is really tight too. My eyes are also sore and I can barely stay awake. Last night I actually felt really scared.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do different strains affect how ill a person is?

Have you been vaccinated? If you did not have Delta the first time around it may be that this variant just hits you harder. That said, a lot of people are getting Delta and feeling okay - it seems like a lottery. Hope you have some help and feel better soon!

I had Covid last year, it was bearable and was still able to function. I have just tested positive again (I am double jabbed) and feel like I've been hit by a bus!!!

WandaVision2 · 05/10/2021 17:41

Yes I’m fully vaccinated, had my second dose about 3 months ago.

I think when I first had it the delta variant wasn’t doing the rounds

I’m lucky that I’m being well looked after by my DH!

@BayandBlonde that’s interesting, it sounds like your experience has been exactly the same as mine

Then maybe it is just Delta, which is worrying isn't it as we all seem to think getting it over with is a "relief". Hope you aren't poorly for too long. I guess it's also a reminder to keep being careful, which I will do!

WandaVision2 · 05/10/2021 17:48

It definitely is a reminder to be careful. I felt safe having had it previously and being double jabbed

I've had it for the second time this past week and can't believe how sick I've been. Had it first last November and was barely ill. Double jabbed with AZ first dose March second May. This last week has floored me. Nearly called an ambulance and have never felt so ill in my life

WandaVision2 · 05/10/2021 18:20

@fluckityfluckfluck I’m sorry you’ve been so ill. Flowers it’s scary at times isn’t it. You had it at a similar time to me last year when delta wasn’t doing the rounds (as far as I’m aware). I also had the Astra Zenica vaccinations too.

I hope you feel better soon

It is of course possible that your symptoms are from something else, it is possible to catch more than one respiratory virus at the same time, or indeed have the PCR you took catch the remains of a largely symptomless covid infection in the recent past.

So please don't assume any symptoms you have are covid, and if you need medical care for the symptoms seek it, don't look at a oximeter reading and thing "bad covid is low O2, mine's fine, I'll be grand later".

Also of course, one of the reasons you're more likely to lose protection from infection is if your past infection was particularly mild, as your body then didn't have to mount much of a defence - just enough defence to make the vaccine less effective too. So a later harder to fight infection can come from that - you would likely still have had some protection from the most severe outcomes.

@sirfredfredgeorgen that is really good advice, thank you. I’m going to take that onboard and call my GP today because I have all the symptoms of a chest infection and although it might be Covid you’re right that it might be something else

@sirfredfredgeorge I took your advice and was seen this afternoon by a doctor at my local hospitals Covid hub. I have a bad chest infection as well as the Covid and have been prescribed antibiotics and steroids.

Thank you again for your excellent advice. I wouldn’t have called my doctor otherwise and I imagine my chest infection would have continued to get even worse.

Thank you Flowers

Hope you feel better soon @WandaVision2 and thanks for visiting the hospital when you needed it!
