Toddler symptoms at end of isolation

Hi,

Just looking for others experiences just to compare more then anything.

My Dd caught covid off my husband and she came to the end of her 10 isolation days on Sunday. Did anyone else’s children develop the cough at the end of isolation? We have kept her off nursery today as she has a sort of runny nose and sneezing more then she normally does and test trace said to remain isolating if you are still sneezing and have a runny nose.

Did anyone else’s children develop this towards the end of isolation? I’m not looking for any technicality to get her back into nursery as I would normally not send her in if she was like this anyway and I will do what’s best for other people at the nursery as well as my daughter by not sending her back too soon.

Thankfully myself and husband are on the mend also apart from broken sleep with little one due to her cough waking her up occasionally.

Thanks.

We have been told by test and trace that if you have a cough at the end of the 10 days you can still stop isolating. They said for our DD if she has diarrhea at the end of the 10 days she has to continue to isolation until that has passed.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/how-long-to-self-isolate/

Under if you've tested positive -

"How long you need to self-isolate
If you test positive, your self-isolation period includes the day your symptoms started (or the day you had the test, if you do not have symptoms) and the next 10 full days.

If you get symptoms while you're self-isolating, the 10 days restarts from the day after your symptoms started.

When to stop self-isolating
You can stop self-isolating after the 10 days if either:

you do not have any symptoms
you just have a cough or changes to your sense of smell or taste – these can last for weeks after the infection has gone
When to keep self-isolating
If you have a high temperature after the 10 days, or are feeling unwell, keep self-isolating and seek medical advice."

By the way we did have a positive PCR 11 days ago for her so we defo know she had covid… just found it odd that test and trace told us about sneezing/runny nose but there was no mention of it on the nhs website…

I wouldn’t keep isolating my child for a runny nose & sneezing personally 🤷🏼‍♀️ That’s def not the guidance. I guess it’s polite to keep her off nursery a bit longer but I’d not keep her in the house. Get out for walks & let her burn off some steam after 10 days stuck at home! She is highly unlikely to still be infectious.

Coughs can last for weeks after any virus.. my eldest never stops coughing in winter, it’s madness 🙈

I spoke to track and trace and they told us that my daughter will have to continue isolating until her runny nose/sneezing had stopped

Yep it’s the guidance and it has been for a year. If you still have any symptoms other than a cough or loss of taste or smell then you must continue to isolate.

@mariebaby3 this what I was told… I just found it odd that the sneezing runny nose & cough all started around day 9 as all my daughter showed up til then was a slightly raised temp since testing positive on day 1 and the raised temp disappeared around day 6.

It’s almost like she has a cold, thankfully she is nice and cool and some vicks and calpol are helping her sleep. Best I try and get some sleep as we all have had 2 nights of limited sleep.

I hope your daughter is feeling well.
