To cut a long story short my 7 year old has tested positive for Covid. I didnt even suspect it other than I really terrible cough that developed last night and a change in his voice. I ended up testing him 3 times as I thought the tests were false. I have tested negative. He developed a temp of 39.6 last night and became disorientated. Luckily paracetamol brought it down and he slept all night though I noticed his temperature go from too high to feeling freezing cold. Today he seems absolutely fine other than the deep cough, pitchy voice and a temperature. He said he aches abit but his just normal in himself. I tested us both again this morning to see if we had dodgy tests last night and they gave the same results. We went for our PCR test earlier today. I now feel horrendous. So much so ive taken another LFT to see if anything has changed. It hasn't. I'm still negative.

How can my positive child be feeling pretty fine and me being negative feel like im full of flu?
I swear it's getting worse too. I feel so sick and like my head is going to explode. My whole body aches

I think at minimum the rules should be for household contacts
If you have symptoms you isolate (even if you do get a negative pcr).

BlueButterfliesAndPurpleStars · 03/10/2021 22:28

@Whyisitsodifficult

Hmm maybe it’s not COVID there are other viruses before COVID came along! Stop with the multiple tests and just deal with the symptoms as you would pre COVID!
The problem for me, is that exactly what I thought when I started to feel poorly.

DDs LFT could not have been more positive - twice. We've been testing throughout and I never thought I'd see positive!

Perhaps we have different viruses. Which could mean I get Covid on too, yey!

Or maybe with being double vaxed and the virus having mutated, I didn't recognise it before (it had been in the back of my mind but not enough to get a PCR).

Needanewadventure2021 · 03/10/2021 22:38

Well I would have continued sending my child to school had he of not tested positive and I would be u work seeing several customers a day. Surely that's just adding to the problem by carrying on

I've too also wondered if being double vaccinated has played a part. My DS was instantly positive too all times

Mid August, on a Tuesday evening I felt like I was getting a cold - runny nose, tired, aching eyes, bit of a headache. LFT was negative. No 'typical' covid symptoms but had a PCR Wed morning which came back positive. Luckily I didn't get any worse, no temperature or persistent cough. Had to isolate for 10 days & felt pretty much back to normal by then. From what I've heard, cold symptoms are the most common way covid starts now, so definitely worth taking a PCR & not relying on LFT.

LadyGAgain · 03/10/2021 22:59

I developed a cold and headache on Friday. LFT negative. Felt worse yesterday and stayed home. Did another LFT this morning. And instant positive result plus cough and general flu feeling. Had PCR. Now lost taste and smell. Rest of household no symptoms and negative LFT. Amazed as young children who struggle to keep away from mummy.

Needanewadventure2021 · 03/10/2021 23:07

To be honest if I don't have it I soon will. My DS is very clingy. I cant ask him to keep away.

Just hoping we are lucky and get our results tomorrow

Received our results this morning. We are both positive.

Needanewadventure2021 · 04/10/2021 07:13

The results were sent on an email last night at 11.30pm so got them the same day as test technically

@Needanewadventure2021

Received our results this morning. We are both positive.
Not surprising, and I really hope you feel better soon.

However, it really is concerning how many are getting negative PCRs, despite many positive LFT. For many people that negative PCR means back to work / school, or making the choice to stay home with no pay etc. I really think the guidance needs to be updated as there's definitely some reason why so many are experiencing the same situation as you.

Needanewadventure2021 · 04/10/2021 07:59

My mom has said this. She works in a school so they test heavily. My lateral flow is negative but PCR positive

Covid has not magically killed off every other virus on the planet. There are still other diseases out there that will make you feel shit!
Why are you all so determined that it’s Covid?

toomuchlaundry · 04/10/2021 08:10

@Mybalconyiscracking because it was!

Hope you feel better soon @Needanewadventure2021

Walkaround · 04/10/2021 08:10

@Mybalconyiscracking - could be something to do with the positive lateral flow and/or PCR tests of other people living in the same house and having the same symptoms. It’s not abnormal to think you have the same cold as the people you most likely caught it off.

Needanewadventure2021 · 04/10/2021 08:14

Well maybe its because covid has been pushed in our faces for the last 18 months or more and it's still around. Nobody wants to have Covid but it's about being responsible and finding out if we do.

Oh and having positive results is a clear message too I'd say!

SquishySquirmy · 04/10/2021 08:20

It could be that you have covid, and the LFT is inaccurate.

There is another possibility:
Your son picked up 2 viruses at once (must happen sometimes, right? There are a lot of things circulating at the moment.)
So he has been fighting covid AND a cold/similar virus. He passed the cold onto you, but not covid (are you vaccinated?).

Most likely is that you both have covid. But the alternative is possible too.

SquishySquirmy · 04/10/2021 08:22

Oh sorry just rtft seen the update!

Needanewadventure2021 · 04/10/2021 08:28

Can anyone tell me please?

When does isolation end?

My text message reads...

Self-isolate immediately for 10 days to avoid infecting others.

This includes the day your symptoms started (or the test date if you’ve no symptoms) and the next 10 full days.

I didnt get symptoms until yesterday same day as test and only tested as son was showing positive

Bumpsadaisie · 04/10/2021 08:30

You'll probably get another m

Bumpsadaisie · 04/10/2021 08:32

Oops

You'll prob get another text or email shortly which will tell you the exact day. It to be on your NHS covid 19 app too if you input your results there. They count it from when you said symptoms started.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/10/2021 08:33

Today will be day 1 then.

After Test and Trace called us we had an email with the official dates on.

EileenGC · 04/10/2021 08:33

I’d take that as today being your day 1 - so you need to isolate up to and including Wednesday 13th October. They will probably call you though to clarify this, I imagine?

Needanewadventure2021 · 04/10/2021 08:52

That's how I read it too. I've informed school and work. Am I right in thinking they don't need to isolate anymore?
