Tested positive, single parent, no help at all, WWYD?

As the title says really. My DD is primary age, and has some SN so can’t walk the half mile to and from school herself.

Both my parents are unvaccinated and are now isolating as close contacts to me. School shrugged when I rang them yesterday and said it’s not their problem but I cannot set foot on school grounds.

I’m quite frustrated with it all. I’m double vaccinated since end of August and I still tested positive.

I feel fine in myself, I’m on day 5 of symptoms. I’m eating and drinking fine (although it doesn’t taste of anything), my throat can get very dry and sore but otherwise I’m fine.

How on earth do I get my DD to school? Her attendance is already bad due to her SN and a medical condition meaning we need to attend appointments. School have said as it’s not her whose isolating they don’t have to provide anything for her.

So how on earth do I manage? Due to covid I don’t know anyone else from her class, we don’t ever see anyone on the schoolrun most people walk passed us the other way going to another school.

ExH is not an option, CAO for contact and he lives 2 hours away anyway, his parents are nearby but have tried to go to court with me twice for full residency so I can’t risk her going to them and not getting her back (they’d say ExH has moved in and now has residency).

So ideas please? Or do I just have to keep her off for the next week? (I can go out again on 9th September)

I wfh and always have so no colleagues nearby to help (they’re all over the world)

If you can't get anyone to take her then she can't go. I suppose a taxi isn't an option as she's a bit young. I agree. Don't stress over it.

@User5827372728

I wouldn’t worry and keep her home and do lots of fun learning at home as it sounds like you’re feeling up to it!
I absolutely am. I only did an LFT as I was due to go to a conference the following day in London so wanted to checked my sore throat was my allergies which feel very similar.

I wouldn’t worry and would just do some things at home with them. I’d not be sending mine in anyway if there was a positive case in the household as I have no idea if there are any CEV people or families.
You’re not meant to leave the house/garden whilst positive bar to go for a test so there shouldn’t by any suggestions of driving etc.

I’m shocked they aren’t setting work. We set it for kids that have to be off for covid related reasons but not the ones that have tested positive/are ill! So surely she falls into that category?

ZZGirl · 02/10/2021 20:13

Keep her off for your isolation period and ask for home learning to be set.

Yes unfortunately she can't go and it's pretty obvious why so I would expect the staff to be supportive.

And can't they provide work? They do for dc who have been off with covid

I've been told they don't have to provide it because she's not off due to her having to isolate/testing positive, it's because of me.

From what I can see if I test her and she's negative she can go back to school as she's under 18, so they're basically following the law.

I've been doing LFTs on her as she's not showing symptoms at all and they're negative so I assume school will want her back and won't provide work.

I'd be getting to the point where I think 'fuck society' because nobody in society is actually going to help you out of this problem that you have been stitched into by society. Presumably you can keep your distance from anyone on the street if you walk?

They've told me I cannot set foot on school grounds, the walking to school isn't the issue it's once I get there. There's no teachers on the gate, you walk the child to their classrooms and then they go in. The HT and DHT have their own classes so are in their own classrooms.

I would keep her off..I had the exact same battle with my children's school when me and hubby were positive.. neg pcr for them and they wanted them in..I stood my ground and they ended up testing positive anyway 3 days later. I hate to think how many children and teachers they both would've spread it to had I sent them in , reckless rules tbh . Hope you feel better.
