Visiting Scotland, what do I need to know?

Me and DH are heading north for a few days next week (first trip anywhere for two years so we're very excited!).

We won't be going to nightclubs because we're ancient but we usually go to cocktail bars/restaurants/pubs. We're also likely to visit museums, galleries and so on.

What, if anything, do I need to download? And can you sign into places with pen and paper, as DH doesn't have a phone?

I don't think the vaccine passport will apply to us from my reading, as none of the places we're likely to visit count as a nightclub. But are some venues asking for passports at their own discretion?

Finally, I'm mask exempt. What's the protocol with that - would it be a good idea to wear a lanyard, as I do in England?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance!

Yes you should be allowed to sign in with pen and paper. Doesn't sound like the passport will apply to you, and haven't heard of any places saying they are going to be requesting it at their own discretion.

Lanyard a good idea as masks are still mandatory here

Mask wearing is still very much in place in Scotland so the lanyard is a good idea.

I know Kelvingrove no longer requires visitors to pre-book but you'd be as well to google any attractions you're planning to visit to check on their individual requirements. Most bars and restaurants ask you to sign in using a smartphone, if dining indoors. Only one person in the group needs to do that though, so you could do it instead of your DH.

You might want to book in advance as much as you can. Places are busy, and often short staffed.

I'd agree about wearing a lanyard. From my experience, apart from very few people, everyone complies with mask wearing, and occasionally a face shield, so you will likely be reminded to put on a mask repeatedly.

This is all really useful, thank you!

In England every member of a group had to sign in individually when it was mandatory, so I thought it might be the same in Scotland. Me and DH will be going everywhere together so that shouldn't be an issue.

I've just looked on the Scottish government website and found a card to download re mask exemption - I'll put it in my usual lanyard card holder thingy.
