If you have COVID can you only do postal test for another household member?

DH and I have COVID. I sent a postal PCR for DS2 yesterday as assumed I'm not supposed to drive to a test centre. He had a negative result from when DH and I did our tests on Tuesday (as did DS1) but he's started with symptoms so hence the need to retest DS2.

I've just heard DS1 (17) coughing and sneezing in his bedroom so may need to think about testing him again too. The quickest way to do it would be a drive through, to save him missing as much school, if postal tests are taking a few days. Am I not allowed to take him even with windows down and masks on and him in the back? Or is it definitely postal only...?

You can leave isolation to go to the test center.

dementedpixie · 01/10/2021 20:01

Of course you can go out to get tested

I know you can go out to get tested if you have symptoms or whatever and need to get tested. But once it's confirmed you're positive are you still allowed to take someone else along to a test centre to get THEM tested, while you're contagious yourself?

Sorry to sound harsh but who do you think is going to stop you? You are an adult so use common sense and make your own judgment rather than wondering what’s “allowed” you wont be coming into contact with anyone so there is no issue.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/10/2021 20:30

I guess I should have made it clearer - it's not about whether it's "allowed" or not, really, I am thinking of if I would be putting the staff at risk. They don't wear medical grade masks and stand within a metre. Plus there's the thought that DS and I are staying completely separate from each other in the house, and he's going to be cooped up with me in a confined space for over half an hour. Even if he tests negative, he could catch it off me in the car on the way to the test centre? Grin

Do you have a walk through one? You could drive him to the walk through one?

Noogar · 01/10/2021 20:45

They are exposed to people with covid everyday. The only difference is you know you have it.

EasterIssland · 01/10/2021 21:08

I did a pcr in a walk though one. They didn’t come close to me and they were wearing face masks.

You can go to the post box. They’ve to be sent from priority boxes which are outside the shop so again no need to come in contact with anyone

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/10/2021 07:40

I did the postal one in the end and DS has tested negative again. Confused. So he’s going to school. Having had symptoms since last Tuesday and with 2 confirmed positive parents. I don’t get it, but there you go. It seems lots of people are experiencing this wierdness

Yes you can. I had to walk twice to the post box due to no car to post tests for myself and then my son. You would still have to leave the house to post them they won't fly to the post box.

You are allowed out for testing. If it's the only way your DS can get there, then do it. When I took DD, they wanted to speak to her (not me) so went around to her side of the car. Obviously you'll have a mask on, window up so they shouldn't get that near you. If staff aren't wearing masks, that's their choice - they know the risks, ie they're dealing with people who have symptoms.

Hope you're all ok.
