Teens had covid 2 wks ago, how long to wait for vax

Hi, my three teens all had covid 2 weeks ago. Now had a letter from school saying they want to vaccinate in school mid October. I’m getting very conflicting info on when it’s safe for them to be vaccinated. My gp thinks 10 weeks. I ended up in hospital with covid pneumonia and a blood clot and staff there thought I wouldn’t be eligible for my own booster for 90 days. Yet online I’m seeing it’s safe to have a vaccine 28 days post symptoms? Anybody any idea? Thanks

I was in a similar situation. You have to wait 28 days from positive Covid test result before you can get vaccination. My DD missed the vaccination in school because of this but I've been advised they will be doing drop-in clinics for those who missed the in school sessions. Hope that helps.

Or if over 16 they can just go to a walk-in centre.

They’re all under 16 so yes I’m glad they’re going to do drop in sessions. Thank u

There must be a lot of children in this situation, including one of my own 15 year olds, who had it last week.

Will wait for a 'mop up' session or until he turns 16 in 6 months.

All of this could have been avoided if they'd rolled out vaccinations over the summer.

To be fair plenty of that age group had Covid over summer too so I'm not sure that would've solved the issue.

Your GP should know better. One of the standard mandatory questions when you attend for vaccination is whether you've had Covid in the last 4 weeks.

Thank you yes I was surprised re my GP reply too

They are unlikely to get CoVid again within the next 5-6 months, so I would just do it then.

My DD is in this situation, says 28 days on the form from positive covid result. Her school one got cancelled and put back a month so she can now have it.

I’m concerned about this. What if they have asymptomatic Covid and LFT false negative and they get the vaccine?

Cookerhood · 02/10/2021 19:09

It's unlikely to do them any harm
