Covid booster eligibility- asthma

Does anyone have information regarding booster eligibility. It seems to be a bit confusing.

I know they are doing frontline workers and over 50s but there was talk of any adult aged 16 to 49 who are normally offered a flu jab to be offered a covid booster. I have mild asthma and on the flu jab list so was hoping I would be offered one.

Does anyone know if this is correct?

If you were group 6 (CV) for the vaccine first time round, then yes you should get a booster, but not until 6 months after your second jab.

ArianaG · 01/10/2021 07:42

Group 6 only included severe asthma, looks like it won't be all adults who normally get offered a flu jab then.

the jcvi have now defined uncontrolled asthma and added it in to the green book. Their definition is 2 or more courses of oral steroids or a hospital admission on the last 2 years.

So if you meet that or where done in group 6 you should get a booster.

The initial recomendation was for all flu jab asthmatics to get a booster, but that was dropped.

sorry they are calling it poorly controlled asthma. Defined in table 3.

I do remember there being talk of this, but think current plans are just to offer boosters to those in groups 1 - 6.

Overthebow · 01/10/2021 08:52

No it’s just for those in group 6 currently, not everyone who gets the flu jab.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 01/10/2021 09:02

Those being offered boosters at the moment are generally Healthcare workers and the very elderly as they are the ones who have had their 2nd vaccine 6+ months ago. If you were prioritised for an earlier vaccine due to your athsma they may offer you a booster but not until you are 180 days past 2nd dose. FWIW I'm in a similar situation to you, under 50 , mild athsma, had 2nd jab in May but I'm not expecting to be called for a booster.

kimlo · 01/10/2021 09:07

if you had your second in May you must have been done in group 6, so you will be offered a booster. Groups 1-9 are being offered them.

I was done in group 6 and my second was in May.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 01/10/2021 09:15

@kimlo I was done early because I started work in the care sector and therefore became eligible before my age group not because of my athsma

Wellbythebloodyhell · 01/10/2021 09:17

I no longer work in the care home though so won't get the booster that way either

kimlo · 01/10/2021 09:17

ah then no you probably wont if you aren't in social care anymore.

emmathedilemma · 01/10/2021 09:32

I'm also confused by this. I wasn't asthmatic enough to be in the "high risk" group for Covid jab priority but I do normally get a flu jab. I wasn't expecting to get a booster but the info posted by my GP practice suggests I will .......although when I commented on their facebook post they didn't seem entirely sure and I can't have it until 6 months after my 2nd dose which isn't until January anyway!

ArianaG · 01/10/2021 22:06

It's all a bit confusing, I did ask about it at my GP but they didn't seem to know!
