He DID use the Covid laws to carry out a bogus arrest on Sarah Everard.

The Met Police officer who kidnapped and murdered Sarah Everard used Covid-19 laws to carry out a bogus arrest of the 33yo, the Old Bailey has heard.

He was carrying an array of police equipment and posing as an undercover cop when he handcuffed and captured her.

“He could have used any law!” - yeah but he didn’t, did he. There’s a reason for that.

How exactly do you know what was in his mind?

I was (and still am) against the way some of the covid laws were pushed through and enforced but i’m finding this thread extremely distasteful. You are using the awful murder of this poor woman to push an agenda. It’s horrible.

Moonopoly · 30/09/2021 18:37

@PurpleDaisies I think the only agenda the majority of people on this thread have is the protection of women and vulnerable groups in the drafting of temporary laws. I think that this in entirely appropriate in this context.
No one has mentioned the rights or wrongs of lockdown as far as I can see.

@middleager

Sorry, posting this on every thread as this is how my local police force respond. Women, police your behaviour.
A better poster would be a picture of group of men in a club that says “stay together on a night out and make sure your mate doesn’t rape and/or murder anyone”

He planned this in advance. We already know this. It’s not a massive leap to believe that he saw using the Covid rules and the fact that there are fewer people about was to his advantage.

Given I’ve already said in the post you’re quoting that I think the winter lockdown was the right thing to do, what agenda is it you think I’m pushing?

The coronavirus laws made it easier for him to do this. Are we supposed to pretend that’s not the case?

PicsInRed · 30/09/2021 18:42

I presume there will be a fulsome investigation to identify any previous victims of Couzens, whether that be of assault, rape, abduction, murder etc? Yes?

I won't hold my breath.

PicsInRed · 30/09/2021 18:44

Oh, and why was his police nickname "The Rapist"?

Who knew WHAT, and WHEN did they know it?

GingerScallop · 30/09/2021 18:50

@hepatocyte

I don't think it's ok to politicise her murder as ammo for anti-lockdown threads.

What happened to Sarah was hideous, the worst thing anyone could imagine, and the POS who did this would have found a way to use his police status to commit these crimes whatever the situation, pandemic or no pandemic.

May she rest in peace and her family be brought some comfort now the trial is almost over.

so true. so eloquent
GoldenOmber · 30/09/2021 18:52

Yes, hard to imagine this and the indecent exposure before it were the first awful things he’d ever done.

MercyBooth · 30/09/2021 18:54

People laugh about flashing but it isnt funny. Men who do this are working their way up to do much worse things.

Agree with this.

Men who are violent against partners -yes woman can go to Claire's law but the onus is on them -why not make it illegal for them not to inform ANY new partner of their prior convictions and put the onus back on the men.

ExceptionalAssurance · 30/09/2021 19:29

@MercyBooth

Equating women on here with Piers Corbyn. Women who are simply saying that the lockdown laws made it easier for WC to carry out his bogus arrest. Its an attempt at a silencing tactic and looks very sinister.
Doesn't it just. Speaking of agendas and politicisation.

I'm absolutely not trying to push any anti-lockdown agenda. What I am saying is that, in the event lockdown was to be introduced again, there needs to be clarity. For example, you are accused alone in breach of Covid regulations because you're on the way home from dinner with a friend: police can issue a verbal caution or a fine but ONLY when on duty and in uniform. They cannot arrest, nor handcuff any individual under these laws unless a further offence is committed (i.e. antisocial behaviour, possession of drugs or a weapon, violence). Would that not be a good idea? And how is suggesting that "pushing an agenda"? I'd have thought her family and friends would be glad for this to be enacted, insofar as they can be glad about anything at the moment.
