DP tested positive on an LFT last night. No symptoms, just a precaution as he was due to go to a family funeral today.
He went for a PCR last night and is awaiting results, but has done another LFT this morning and it looks negative.

However. I did an LFT last night after his was positive and there appears to be something there...? It looked negative at 30 mins I think, but looked like this after about an hour. I know you're not meant to read them after 30 mins, but we often have LFTs hanging around for a bit before we get round to logging them for school and I've never seen the hint of a 2nd line before.

DC did negative LFTs last night and have gone to school. I'm not sure what to do. Wait for DP's PCR then decide?

I can’t see a line, but if you’re unsure I’d just book a PCR.

CrunchyCarrot · 28/09/2021 10:03

Can't see one - but as PP says, book a PCR if you're concerned.

SusannahHolmes · 28/09/2021 10:24

I can see it. Book a PCR.

Really best not to read these tests after 30 minutes. There's a reason they put a time limit on them.

BlackInk · 28/09/2021 11:51

I'm going to lie low today and see what DP's PCR result is I think. Whole family will do daily LFTs for the next week or so regardless!

I can see it, I had one of those maybe even fainter than yours for my son last night, he has been unwell but not typical covid symptoms. Got a PCR today just to be safe.

Hersetta427 · 28/09/2021 12:10

Invert the colours on the photo as it makes it easier to see if there is a line. You are not supposed to look after more than 30 mins. To be honest a positive test will come up within minutes anyway.

Shouldbedoing · 28/09/2021 12:13

LFTs are often ambiguous when positive and often miss a positive.

BlackInk · 29/09/2021 13:34

Well, DP's PCR came back negative, and whole household has done another LFT or two – all clearly negative.
I think we have to presume DP's positive LFT was a false one (and my suspect LFT was just a smudgy negative), although no idea what could cause that. He hadn't eaten or drunk anything for ages before, and no possibility of cross-contamination as he did the test at home.
