Isolation with symptoms help - Scotland

DC2 has been coughing all night. She's full of cold so likely that, but of course she needs to have a PCR test.

Am I right in thinking that the rest of the household need to isolate also, until her test results, even though we are under 18 and/or fully vaccinated?

Yep that's right.

If your daughter tests positive you will all need to have PCR tests as close contacts.

Thank you. I thought that was the case, but got myself all confused reading that fully vaccinated don't have to isolate at all etc.

It is confusing as the rules in England are different, and that tends to be what gets talked about!

If your daughter is positive but the rest of you test negative on your close contact PCRs, then you won't have to isolate any more as long as you are vaccinated / under 18.

If you book a PCR test appointment through the gov.uk site, it says you don't need to isolate at all if fully vaccinated.

But the gov.scot site says to isolate whilst waiting for results.

She was tested a couple weeks back and I didn't isolate, because I'd read the wrong advice Blush. Although I am pretty sure the guy at the test centre said only DD had to isolate whilst waiting the result too Confused

I have rearranged a meeting I had booked for tomorrow regardless, fingers crossed results are back by Thursday 🤞

Was she tested a couple of weeks back due to symptoms, or because she was a close contact? If it was as a close contact, then only she would have had to isolate.

It's pretty bad if the gov.uk site hasn't made their advice specific to the region you are booking the test in!!

DumplingsAndStew · 28/09/2021 09:39

Kind of symptoms. None of the main 3, but she was just feeling really rough and her friend had symptoms and was waiting on results so, with the schools support, we decided to lie to get a test Blush There is an ongoing issue of school refusal so was unsure how 'ill' she was.

They were both negative.

Life would be a lot simpler if the SNP regional administration would stop doing everything differently to the rest of the UK, purely to be awkward and try to pretend they are a separate state.
They have already been attacked by the Scottish travel industry, as Scots holidaymakers are all flying from Newcastle or Manchester, to avoid the SNP’s more restrictive testing/quarantine rules than those for English travellers.

DumplingsAndStew · 28/09/2021 09:58

@Babdoc

I think you'll find it's more a case of England doing things differently to the rest of the UK, and at times the rest of the world.

But thanks for turning my daughter feeling crap into a political issue. There's not enough of that 🙄

I was in a similar position a few weeks ago with a coughing DC and ended up phoning NHS Inform to clarify. Guy was very helpful. You could give them a try. I was told I didn't have to isolate pending DC's results if double jagged and no symptoms. Hope your DC feels better soon.

DumplingsAndStew · 28/09/2021 11:55

Thanks @containsnuts I've just had a look and used the questions on the NHS inform site and they are all saying to isolate Sad

There's so much conflicting info. Hopefully your DC will test negative and you won't have to isolate too long. It's going to be a long winter at this rate. My DC have cold/cough every two weeks just now Hmm
bagofconkers · 28/09/2021 13:54

You are definitely doing the right thing by isolating! Hope your daughter's test comes back negative and she is feeling much better soon!

DumplingsAndStew · 28/09/2021 14:58

Thanks. I definitely feel isolating is the best option.

Currently sitting in the car waiting for 3pm appointment. Had to drive a half hour to the nearest drive in test place, as the walk in ones require a mask, and she can't wear one 🙁 Will need to try to find some petrol through here before heading home and trying to raid the house for something to feed the kids 😂

Yes, whole family must isolate in Scotland. When test and protect rang after my daughter's positive result we were all (rest of the family) advised to get a test 3-5 days after her symptoms started, not straight away and to isolate until receiving a negative result.
