Whole school assemblies?

My daughter's school had a whole school assembly indoors today. Everyone from young nursery children to 6th form. I think its daft. Is anyone else's children having whole school assemblies? We are in the UK.

I think the plan is to get as many children to have it as possible now so that it takes some of the pressure off the winter as there will be a higher level of immunity in the population.

SonnetForSpring · 27/09/2021 16:49

How ethical that is...is questionable seeing as children haven't had the opportunity to be vaccinated.

Autumngoldleaf · 27/09/2021 16:50

Yes of course its Maddness

noblegiraffe · 27/09/2021 16:52

Perfectly allowed per government guidelines.

Probably less daft than making siblings/children of positive cases attend school on threat of fines. Also government guidelines.

DDs school did (2 class entry school). But are back to bubbles now as cases rose.

DanglingMod · 27/09/2021 17:20

Yes it's guidance that everything can be/should be as normal now except hand gel.

QueenOfDuisburg · 27/09/2021 17:55

Yes, our primary has done the same - they have weekly school assemblies and later in the week a 'singing hour' in the hall which is also mixed years. I was pretty surprised as they had been incredibly cautious before the new school year, often going above what was advised in order to restrict cases.

Autumngoldleaf · 27/09/2021 18:00

The government don't think we have enough to contend with, fuel crisis, pumps crisis.. Empty shelves.. We now need NHS never seen in our life time crisis to boot m

helpfulperson · 27/09/2021 18:16

Not allowed under Scottish Government guidance.

FWBNC · 27/09/2021 18:22

Well, it's all a part of let it rip through schools in the first half term isn't it?

Apparently not many children suffer badly, so will build up immunity before winter.

Giving them a vaccination would be better!

Scottish schools are now back 6/7 weeks. Nothing bad happened. Cases now dropping in Scotland. Time to get back to normal
HesterShaw1 · 27/09/2021 18:36

@NannyAndJohn

Johnson would be rubbing his hands in glee.

He wants as many of our children to get it (and face the possibility of Long Covid) as possible.

You know that other thread? Where you were, according to your good self and some other posters, you were getting a hard time?

It's because of posts like this.

Don't be so fucking ridiculous.

The point is that the only way most younger children will get immunity to Covid is via infection, because they will not be vaccinated.

Therefore, the government has decided that the most appropriate thing to do - to move the population as a whole towards herd immunity of a kind - is to make sure that infection levels amongst the young are high in Autumn (to get it out of the way before winter and 'flu season for the holidays)

There is no other rational explanation for the lack of mitigations in schools.

minkfondant · 27/09/2021 19:07

Our school has been having whole school assemblies all month, but has just this week gone back to the individual classes version due to high Covid cases.

Seriously?

If it's true, are any parents happy about it?

Wearing masks and no whole school assemblies in Scotland. Not the case in England. It’s not time to get back to normal when case rates in school aged children are rising extremely fast.

Faffinator · 27/09/2021 19:43

Massive odds that your child will get covid at some point this school year anyway, so the handwringing is beyond pointless.

I stand by what I say. If you look below there was a dramatic increase in infection for kids in Scotland. Now look at the picture. High school wore masks the whole time. No other mitigations introduced or change.

It will naturally turn back down again as it did here.

Whole school assemblies?
louisacat · 27/09/2021 19:53

My ds's school have one every day. I know because he always moans about it! He is at a primary though so only reception-year 6.

Rizzoli123 · 27/09/2021 20:51

My sons school does. There are 100 or so pupils in the school. They all sit in the hall. They are all distanced in bubbles and they don't mix with other classes

Bobholll · 27/09/2021 21:11

We have big assemblies. I’m glad they are back. It’s a nice part of school. My kid could get covid anywhere.. as could we. I spent all Saturday in a heaving Trafford Centre. Squashed into a lift with 9 people at one point 🙈
